Transcriber's notes:

The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder, not the
transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information found in the
 Transcriber's Notes below.
The use of a ? mark indicates letters or words that cannot be read, due to the quality]
 of the original document.

*Died on the Voyage - there are no entries in this column, and it has been eliminated

*Burthen - manifest reads 1751, followed by the number 21 over a squiggle, before the
 words "tons"

The first 15 names were too dark on the copy of the microfilm to read. Someone
(apparently at the ISTG office), had transcribed the names on the back of the copy.

5 Last name appears to be Marsh, could be March
10 Handwritten note on back of manifest copy says it could be Sheffard, but it appears
   to be Sheppard to me
27 Last name appears to be Deconberry, but could be Decosberry
35 Last name starts with what looks like Taff, then has four additional letters that
   appear to be "mann"

SS Empire City
The Steam Ship Empire City was built in 1847 by William H Brown, and was the sister ship
of the Crescent City. They were originally owned by Charles Morgan of the Empire City Line.

She was purchased by the U.S. Mail Steamship Company, owned by George Law, Marshall O.
Roberts, and Bowers McIlvaine of New York City. She was used on the Havana to New York
leg of the mail route from the West Coast through the Panama Canal to the East Coast of
the United States. (This information was gleaned from various sources on the Internet.)
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M237, Reel 200, list 274.
