I, S H Gatjen, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Bremen Ship Elise whereof I am Master, from Bremen. So help me God, S H Gatjen

Some possibilities are Ant for Anton; Aug for August; Cath for Catherine; Chr or Christ for Christian; Conr for Conrad; Eberh for Eberhard; Fr for Franz, Fritz, or Friedrich; Fried or Friedr for Friedrich; Gebh for Gebhard; Gottf for Gottfried; Heinr for Heinrich; Herm for Hermann; Joh for Johann or Johannes; Marg or Margar for Marguertha or Margueretta; Math for Mathias; and Wolfg for Wolfgang. 


      7  The occupation is clearly roopmaker, not ropemaker; this may be a misspelling 
         by the manifest writer or another occupation.
 11- 12  Surname is Teiller or Tuller.
     25  This child is listed by himself, though passenger #8 is also a Ekhard.
     40  'St N J' is written in the death column, but immediately after Williamsburg,
         so it could refer to it.
     50  Surname has umlaut.  Occupation of 'st mason' is written clearly; possibly 
         stone mason.
     58  Surname has umlaut.
     60  Surname has umlaut.
     87  Occupation of compositor is one who works in the printing industry, setting 
         type, etc.
 97- 98  The location they are from seems to be the same as #100 and #103-111, but the
         first letter differs some (no ending down stroke).
    100  The location they are from seems to be the same as #97-98 and #103-111, but

103-111  The location they are from seems to be the same as #97-98 and #100, but the

    123  The first letter of the location he is from is not like other letters,

131-132  Surname is clearly Mikm for #131 and Mihm for #132.
    136  Surname clearly has two 'l's, but other Schuler family he is with have one.
    168  The word infant is written in the death column; unclear if this is a death or 
         a comment.
