Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that cannot be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively, even though they are not
numbered in the original manifest.
The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates a passenger's Occupation, such as
"Merch" or "Mercht" for "Merchant", "Mech" for Mechanic, "Mach" for Machinist and
"Lab" or "Lab^r" for Laborer.
12 There is damage to the manifest in the area of this passenger's name making the
last part of the surname unreadable. Name is possibly "Ingram" or "Ingels".
32 There are numbers written beside this passenger's name. The meaning of the
numbers "1903 - 5/6/36" is unknown to the transcriber.
41 Surname appears to be written as "Daich", but might possibly be "Darch".
47 Surname recorded as "Driskill", but might possibly be "Driscoll".
54 Surname appears to be written as "Nobinson", but might possibly be "Robinson".
60 Surname is recorded as "McColl", but might possibly be "McCall".
64-66 Surname is recorded as "Dervine", but might possibly be "Devine"
or "Irvine".
67-68 Surname is recorded as "McLachlan", but might possibly be "McLoughlin".
77 Surname is recorded as "Fahey", but might possibly be "Fahy" or "Faghy".
83-84 These children passengers have the recorded as Occupation "Matron", clearly
a recording error.
90 The Sex of this infant passenger is recorded as "Don't Know".
100 Surname is recorded as "Cunn", but might possibly be "Cune" or "Cann".
104 Surname is recorded as "Adam", but might possibly be "Adams".
121 Surname appears to be either "Orenstone" or "Ovenstone".
135 Surname is either "Diver" or "Dever".
149 Surname appears to be "Cerrin", but might possibly be "Serrin".
151 The three letters of given name are not carefully formed and cannot be
deciphered with certainty, but the name is possibly "Jno".
152 Passenger has the masculine given name "Michl" and Occupation "Laborer", yet
Sex is recorded as "Female", likely a recording error.
152-153 Surname is recorded as "Ayre", but might possibly be "Ayres".
172-173 First part of surname is not clearly written and cannot be deciphered, but
might possibly begin with "Sh" or "St".
175 Surname is recorded as "Docherty", but might possibly be "Doherty" or "Dougherty".
189 Passenger's Occupation cannot be deciphered with certainty, but might
possibly be "Plasterer".
191 Passenger has the feminine given name "Margaret" and Sex is recorded as "Female",
yet Occupation is listed as "Laborer", possibly a recording error.
193-194 Passegers' Occupation is recorded as "Ferrant", but "Servant" might have
been intended.
207 Passenger has the feminine given name "Ellen" and Sex is recorded as "Female",
yet Occupation is listed as "Lab^r", possibly a recording error.
223 Surname is recorded as "Reddin", but might possibly be "Reddan".
230-232 Surname appears to be written as "McGany", but might possibly be "McGarry".
234-236 Surname is recorded as "Docherty", but might possibly be "Doherty"
or "Dougherty".
237-240 Surname is recorded as "Connal", but might possibly be "Connell".
241 Surname is recorded as "Connerty", but might possibly be "Connarty",
"Connaghty" or "Connery".
243 Surname appears to be either "Donnell" or "Donald".
250 Surname is recorded as "McCoul", but might possibly be "McCool".
252 Surname appears to be written as "Veil", but might possibly ne "Veale" or "Neill".
257 Surname is possibly "Byely", "Beply", "Begely" or "Begley".
Correspondence added 12-13-2006, passengers 49-51, BUCKLEY
My great-grandmother, Margaret Buckley, with her two young children John and Agnes, traveled
aboard this ship to join her husband, William Buckley, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. William
and his brother Michael had secured lodging and employment in the anthracite coal mines and were
soon joined by two younger brothers, John and Philip and a married sister, Margaret and her husband
Patrick Conners along with their young son Michael. Margaret Buckley, nee Scully, was born of Irish
parents in 1846 in Birkenhead, England. In 1862 she married William Buckley, a recently discharged
and decorated veteran of the Crimean War. William Buckley and his family had, 10 years earlier, fled
the Irish potato famine in County Tipperary and found work in England.
After settling in Pennsylvania and enduring for 18 years the dangerous working conditions of the coal mines,
Margaret and William took their growing family of 9 children west to Montana where they established a homestead
adjacent to the town of Harlem and lived out the rest of their lives building a successful cattle-raising
business which is operated by their descendants to this day. Phil Buckley
