Liverpool, England, and Queensland, Ireland, to Boston, Mass.
4 May 1885
I, Alex McKay , Master of the S.S. "Catalonia" do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of Boston is a full and perfect List of all passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool and Queenstown from which port the said vessel has now arrived; and that on the said list are truly designated the age, sex, and calling of each of the said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of the nativity of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that the said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of the said passengers who have died on the said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojurn in this country. So help me God.

Transcriber's Notes
The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder.
The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read, due to quality
of the original document.
The recorder, while generally having good penmanship, had the habit of writing
certain small letters all the same: u, n, m, e, and i were nearly identical.
Names like Winnie or Jennie were a series of small pointed strokes.
The recorder had another idiosyncracy. Wherever Katherine appears on this list,
he used the custom form of abbreviation of the period. He wrote Kat, then a
small e with a horizontal stroke over it, suggesting that it is the final letter
and that the others were left out. The recorder, however, wrote out completely all
entries for the name Catherine wherever they occurred.
601 While the rest of the name suggests Druhan, the first letter is clearly not a
capital d. It is faint, and resembles a narrow figure 8. A capital t is the best
guess. It may be a misunderstanding of the spoken name.
732 Bar followed by 3 points and a c or e before a final letter of k. maybe Barnick.
If it is an e, the loop is filled with ink.
738 Fle followed by numerous points. The last letter seems to have a very faint loop
portion below the line. There is a floating i dot near the end. Best guess would
be Flemming.
749 See Kate Notes.
752 Last letter n or u. Sheridan makes most sense.
754,774,783, and 788 See Kate notes.
797 Kate notes. Last letter n or u. Probable Voonan. The initial letter is quite
clearly a V not an N.
799 Four points between the a and the c. It appears to be Hanncock with two n's.
803, 807, 816 See Kate notes.
828 Between the K and the f are 4 points. Maybe Kenfick.
870 Surname faint. Ber, then a part of a loop below the line looks like a g.
Followed by 3 points. Bergen most likely.
878, 880 and 881 see Kate notes.
882 Fl followed by 6 points and a faint last letter. a faint i dot present. Looks
like Fleming with one m.
885 C followed by 6 points, an a, and 2 more points. Cunnane is possible.
886 W followed by 7 points. no i dot visible, but Winnie likely.
895 See Kate notes.
