Transcriber's Notes:

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed definitely.

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.

The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates given names by writing the first
few letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter
as superscripted or does a simple abbreviation. In the case of superscipts,
the transcriber uses the symbol (^) to indicate that the following letter is
superscripted, i.e., Tho^s for Thomas, Sam^l for Samuel, W^m for William, etc.
Simple abbreviations are transcribed as recorded.

20 Could be Albrutis.
21 Could be Harry Lafomcado.
23 Occupation could be interpreted Prossicater.

37 While it is not yet proven that this is Samuel Colt, inventor of the Colt revolver,
the age is correct. He built his Colt factory in Connecticut. To learn more about
Samuel Colt you may visit this Web site: Samuel Colt.

47 Commodore Matthew C. Perry - His biography is too long and distinguished to include
here but the Navy Department Library has an interesting article on him and the opening
      of Japan. See Matthew Perry

51 Silas Bent born on 10 October 1820 in St. Louis, Mo., was appointed midshipman at
age 16 and served in the Navy for the next 25 years, during which he became well
versed in the science of oceanography. He crossed the Atlantic five times,
the Pacific twice, rounded Cape Horn four times and the Cape of Good Hope once.
He was serving in "Preble" in 1849 when that brig sailed into Nagasaki, Japan,
to secure the release of 18 shipwrecked American sailors imprisoned by the Japanese.
He was flag lieutenant in "Mississippi", Commodore Perry's flagship during the
expedition to Japan between 1852 and 1854, and he made hydrographic surveys of
Japanese waters. An oceanographic survey ship, was named after him and launched
      on 16 May 1964.

53 Could be Suson or Suron.
81 Cannot read the letter of the superscript.
