DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, J G Smith Master of the Ship Australia do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by Me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York,is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Ship Australia at Liverpool from which port said Australia has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

The Space Occupied for all passengers was "Main Deck" and this column has been omitted from this transcription.

The transcription preserves the original spelling.

This manifest was difficult to read because of handwriting. Further research 
should be completed to confirm findings.

All ditto marks on the original manifest have been replaced with the actual 
words indicated.

The manifest scribe used long vertical lines to probably indicate continuation 
of the last written word(s). These lines have been replaced with the actual 
word/words indicated.

The manifest did not include psgr #s; they have been added by the transcriber.

The manifest scribe used a Germanic letter resembling 'fs'; to aid in reading, 
these have been transcribed to 'ss'.

The Country of Origin of Great Britain was written in several ways: Gt Brit, 
Gr Bit, Gt Brittan, Gr Britt, Gt Brit. For ease in reading these have been 
transcribed to "Gt. Britain".

It is difficult to detect the difference between the written "L" and "S".

Many of the destination state names were misspelled:
  Conn is probably Connecticut;
  Missou?? is probably Missouri;
  Mass is probably Massachusetts;
  Pensayl is Pennsylvania;
  Illanois is Illinois;
  R Isld is probably Rhode Island;
  Minesota is Minnesota;
  Tennesse is Tennessee;
  New jersey is New Jersey.

Occupation "Ser" is probably Servant; "Labor" is probably "Laborer"; 
"Famer" is probably "Farmer".

The country destination of Cannada is Canada.

 17  First name could be miswritten Mary.
 21  4th/5th letters of surname illegible.
 23  Occupation is probably Farmer.
 28-29  2nd word of Occupation is illegible.
 35  Occupation illegible.
 49  Occupation is probably Gardener.
 51  Country of Origin and Destination omitted.
 52  2nd letter of surname not clear because of lower extension of the letter 'y' in the surname above, could be Burns; Occupation, Country of Origin and Destination omitted.
 63-68  First letter of surname not clear, could be Letten or Setten.
 69  First letters of Occupation illegible.
