Passenger #4 McNab
Sir Allan McNab was the Prime Minister of Upper Canada, 1854-1856 - knighted for
fighting in Rebellion of 1837.
Note:
Thank you for all the excellent information on the website. I do have one
small correction, 'tho. The passenger list from ARABIA includes Sir Allan
McNab, and the note at the bottom identifies him as "prime minister of
Upper Canada 1854-56." But Upper Canada ceased to exist in 1841 and was
replaced by the province of Canada West. In 1867 CW, in turn, became the
province of Ontario in the new Dominion of Canada.

Thanks again

Captain C. H. E. Judkins
picture and history at Picture History
Captain C. H. E. Judkins was one of the ablest commanders in the English service. He was the commodore of the Cunard fleet. While he was captain of the "Cambria" in 1846 he invited Frederick Douglass to give a lecture on slavery. Some of the Southern passengers threatened to throw Douglass overboard. Judkins promised to put the Southerners in irons if they did not keep quiet. Douglass was grateful to him for years afterward. Judkins got in a quarrel with P. T. Barnum during another cruise and threatened to put him in irons. Barnum dared him to go ahead. The captain apologized and they became good friends over a bottle of champagne.
