Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk indicates further information in the Passenger Notes.
A question mark indicates indecipherable material.
A caret (^) indicates superscript.
This list has extensive fading of the ink; thus, many letters are unclear or indecipherable.
The captain's surname is spelled out: Gaetjen but also with umlauted a: Gatjen.
The writer of this list indicates family units by recording the father first and then
continuing with "his wife" and his "daughter," etc. I have assumed for this list that
the surname is the same as the head of household.
Spellings as found in the original have been retained in this list, i.e. Newyork and
Cincenneti.
The names on this list are curious: All the passengers are of German descent, but the
given names have been Anglicized, i.e. Henry--probably was Heinrich; Charles may have
been Carl; Godfred was probably Gottfried, Louis/Ludwig, William/Wilhelm, John/Johann, etc.
Some guesses regarding place names: Fortweyn/Fort Wayne, Rosswill/Roseville or Roswell.
This list from the National Archives and Records Administration (Microfilm 237/768) has
been compared to a list found in a monograph which can be found in the Ostfriesen
Genealogical Society of America library at Forest Lake MN. The monograph titled "From
Bremen to America in 1850: Fourteen Rare Emigrant Ship Lists" by Clifford Neal Smith,
Monograph No. 22 in the German-American Genalogical Research Series (ISSN 0094-7806,
published by Westland Publications, McNeal, Arizona, 1987. In the preface to the monograph,
Mr. Smith states that the information comes from an . . . obscure weekly newspaper from
Rudolstadt, Thuringia (Germany)entitled the "Allgemeine Auswanderungs-Zeitung", devoted
to news about ship sailings ... The newspaper can be found in the Beinecke Rare Book
Collection of the Yale University Library. Discrepancies between the NARA list and the
monograph list are mentioned in the Passenger Notes. I cannot explain why some names
included in the monograph are not on the NARA passenger list or why some on the NARA list
are not on the monograph list. The monograph states that the ship left Bremen on 10 June 1850.
1 Monograph lists name as C. W. Forsberg.
1,5&9 The place of origin, Konigsberg, has an umlauted "o."
5 Monograph lists name as H. A. Glatz.
9 Tear in original--given name may be Amalie. Surname is listed as
Brucher in the monograph.
10 Monograph lists name as John, but NARA list looks like it may be
Jahn or Zahn.
11-12 Surname has an umlauted "a" thus may be Fraenkel.
11-14 Monograph says these passengers travelling together.
14 Surname may be Gagner; however, monograph says it is Gener.

Destination starts out as Newyork but seems to be overwritten with
Washington.
21 Monograph lists name as Rieder and place of origin as Rhuenda.
22 Given name almost obliterated: may be Herm (Hermann). Place of origin
is listed as Rhuenda acc. to monograph.
23-24 Monograph lists surname as Reis. Given names according to the monograph
are Justine and Anna Catharine.
26 Monograph lists surname as Murhard.
25-29 Monograph says these passengers travelling together.
31-33 Monograph says these passengers travelling together. Also, lists names
as W. Benning, Christian Kohl, and Carl Vogel.
34 Monograph states that he comes from Hof Kalbsburg.
35-41 Monograph spells the surname Elsaesser indicating an umlaut over the "a"
of Elsasser.
40-41 Entry says: his father/his mother, i.e. parents of entry #35.
43 Surname may have an umlauted "o" thus could be Goetz.
46 Monograph spells the surname as Schuchardt and lists place of origin
as either Neussis or Reussis. Travelling with no. 47.
47 Surname listed as Pausse in monograph which also says he is travelling
with Schuchard, passenger no. 46.
50 Monograph says he is travelling with a family of 5 and the two previous
passengers may be part of that family. Also says name is Joh. Meyer.
53-57 Surname given as Ziegelmiller in the monograph.
58 Surname in monograph: Leppert. Last letters of place of origin not
clear--seems to be Limbach.
59-60 Monograph says these two are travelling together. No. 59 is named Dina
Rosenbusch in the monograph (could it be Lina from Caroline?). Place of
origin for No. 60 is listed as Borken in the monograph.
61-62 Monograph says H. Meyer is from Besse and travelling with Margarethe
Alfken (his wife--maiden name?).
64-65 Listed on NARA list as children of No. 61.
67, &
70-71 Listed in monograph as travelling together and place of origin is spelled
Lehmingen.
69 Surname listed as Allgeier in monograph.
72 Monograph says Hubert Reuter is travelling with a family of 6. Perhaps
passegers 75-77 are part of the family since all are destined for Milwaukee.
75 Given name was probably Gottfried.
78 Monograph only lists his initials: F. H. and from Breuna.
83 Surname listed as Reissenweber in monograph and also says he is travelling
with a family of six and place of origin is Wuerlsdorf.
84-86 May not be surnames here but first names of the Reusenweber family (see
passenger note no. 83 above.
87-88 Ages for these passengers must be incorrect: age 9 and age 2! Also, the
monograph lists place of origin as Eschendorf.
89 Monograph says she is travelling with August & H. Rieder and Anna and
Justine Reis.
90 Surname may be Schreiber. Monograph says she is travelling with the
Elsasser family.
91 Monograph says surname is Moeller and that he's from New York.
92-93 Passengers travelling together according to the monograph. Also, the
names listed in the monograph are Jette Herz and Fanni Potscher. Place

109 Monograph lists surname as Ammon--F. A. Ammon.
111 Surname faded but looks like it could be Wirth.
112 Surname may be Steinhaeuser with an umlauted "a" in Steinhauser.
113 Monograph lists surname as Wolff.
117 Manifest is badly damaged here--surname may be Wilhelmine Preller from
Upferstadt as inferred from the monograph.
122 Monograph lists name as J. P. Renner travelling with J. G. Rebhahn.
123 Monograph says travelling with J. P. Renner (see no. 122)--also lists
surname as Rebhahn.
