DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, Miel* Shannon, Master of the Steamship Africa do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by Me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York,is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Steam ship at Liverpool from which port said Steam ship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

There were no deaths recorded on this voyage and this column has been omitted.

All ditto marks on the original manifest have been replaced with the actual words

The manifest scribe used long vertical lines to probably indicate continuation of 
the last written word(s). These lines have been replaced with the actual word/words 
indicated.

The manifest did not include psgr #s; they have been added by the transcriber.

Captain's first name is probably Neil or Niel.

 6  Center letters of surname illegible.
11  Last 2 letters of surname not clear, could be Winter or Wintre.
11-12  Occupation "& agent" written between the Occupation for these two psgrs, not 
    clear which psgr it applies to.
12  3rd and 4th letters of surname not clear enough to determine surname.
16  First 2 letters and last letter of surname not clear enough to determine name.
17  Manifest scribe discontinued recording Space Occupied for the remainder of the
    manifest.
33  Most letters of surname illegible because of handwriting.
