Las Palmas, Gran Canaria Departures

1937
Ship Pretoria 18 March

1938
Ship Pretoria 5 January

Las Palmas is the principal city of Gran Canaria which is one of the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands are a small group of islands about 70 miles off the coast of Morocco north Africa - 28 degrees latitude. They are a province of Spain. The city has been compared in the past to Havana, Cuba: the crumbling Spanish colonial buildings, the waterfront fortresses, a huge harbour, and the mix of nationalities (in Las Palmas you can find Chinese, Indians, Africans and Cubans).

If you find an ancestor on a ship on ISTG and would like to link to your email address or home page, please submit a short paragraph about the passenger, where settled, children, etc., with the name of the ship and date of arrival, and send to the transcriber at the bottom of the manifest or to the ISTG Production Coordinator. Be sure to include the name of the SHIP and VOLUME number.
