I, Wm. Prothero Chief Officer of the Carpathia from Liverpool, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that I have caused the surgeon of said vessel sailing therewith or the surgeon employed by the owners thereof, to make a physical and mental examination of each and all of the aliens named in the foregoing Lists or Manifest Sheets, 8 in number, and that from the report of said surgeon and from my own investigation I believe that no one of said aliens is an idiot, or imbecile, or a feeble minded person, or insane person or a pauper, or is likely to become a public charge, or is affected with tuberculosis, or with a loathsome or dangerous contagious disease, or is a person who has been convicted of, or who admits having committed a felony or other crime or misdemeaner involving moral turpitude, or is a polygamist, or one admitting belief in the practice of polygamy, or an anarchist, or under promise or agreement, express or implied to perform labor in the United States as a prostitute, or a woman or girl coming to the United States for the purpose of prostitution or for any other immoral purpose, and that also, according to the best of my knowledge and belief, the information in said Lists or Manifests concerning each of said aliens named herein is correct and true in every respect. Personal Notes 709-711, Leie Glaser (1888-1962)is the wife of my father's first cousin. The two children Itze (1908-91) and Wolf (1910-66) were later given American names Irving and Maurice. The family settled in the Boston area and was involved in the wholesale clothing business. 717 Josef (Joseph) Rosen (1897-1983) is my father. Upon arrival he went to live with his sister and her family in Malden, MA, later moving with them to Boston. He was a salesman in the wholesale clothing business for more than fifty years. The family name in Russia was Nemerzhansky. It was simplified to Rosen by my uncle Aron, the first family member to arrive in the US.
