I, R. Bussius, Master of the Norddeutscher Lloyd S.S. Werra do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Collection District , of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said N.D. Lloyd S.S. Werra at Bremen and Southampton from which port said N.D. Lloyd Werra has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage and the dates and names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement , so far as can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien as to a protracted sojourn in this country.
So help me God. (signed) R Bussius

Transcriber's Notes:
Several pages of this manifest are so faint as to be virtually unreadable. Question marks
indicate letters or, in some cases, entire words that are unreadable due to the condition
of the manifest copy. Where possible, further information as to what these letters or words
might be is included in these notes.
In some instances where there is a transcriber's note indicating that a name or number "may
be" something, the information following may be little more than a guess based on portions
of letters that can be seen or that appear as little more than shadows.
There is no heading on the last column of this manifest. It contains place names that may
represent where the passengers are travelling from.
Some of the passengers are bracketed together in the baggage column. This may indicate shared
baggage, or that several passengers are travelling together.
A column, Intended Destination, has been eliminated to save space. All passengers are
listed as destined for the United States.
A column, Date and Cause of Death, has been eliminated because there are no entries in it.
A column, Transient or in transit, or intending protracted sojourn, has been eliminated to
save space. Passengers #227 through 347, there is a line drawn through this column. The
rest of the passengers on this portion of the manifest are listed as "intg. protr. soj."
The use of a ^ indicates that the following letter is a superscript.
When more than one member of a family with the same surname is listed on this manifest,
the surname is almost always only written out for the first person in the group. All
individuals listed directly under that person show only ditto marks for a surname. Thus,
when the surname for the first family member is unreadable, there are no additional
instances of the name to look at. The one exception to this is when the family group
happens to continue onto the top of a second page and the list writer rewrites the surname.
With rare exception, only men are listed as tourists, therefore in instances where the sex
of the passenger cannot be read, and the calling is listed as tourist, it is likely the
passenger is male.
225, surname may be Kladavic.
235, initial may be an I,J,T, or F.
238, surname may be Baumgart,Baumgart?? or Baumgarten. It is not clear as to
whether there are two very faint letters after the t in the surname.
240, surname appears to be Welldore or Willdore.
241,242,243, bracketed together in baggage column.
246, age is 21 or 26.
247,248, bracketed together in baggage column. Cannot discern if anything
is written in the sex column for passenger #248.
249, surname may be Schwaz??.
252, occupation is very faint, it may be none.
253, surname may be Dussl.
254, surname is ?tto or ?tta. The first letter of the surname is not visible
at all.
255, the second ? in the given name may represent an h or b.
257, age may be 68.
258, surname may be Krisbis or Krubis. Given name may be Luisa or Leusa.
259, given name may be Josie.
260, surname may be H??skowicz, Haskowicz, K??skowicz or Kaskowicz. The end of
the name is very faint, so it is difficult to be sure there is a z after the c, though
there appears to be.
261, the question marks at the end of the given name may represent an i and an
s. These letters are very faint. The surname may be Nekol, or Nekob. It is possible
there is a faint letter after the l rather than the letter being b. The only letters
that are certain are the k and the o.
263, surname may be Fennikoh. Occupation column entry too faint to read.
266,267, entries in age column are so faint that it cannot be certain that the
ages are not ?4, though the 4's do line up with other ages in the column in a way that
would indicate that the ages are 4?. Passengers bracketed together in the baggage column
with passengers #268,269.
268, age may be 16. Bracketed together with passengers #266,267,269
in baggage column.
269, bracketed together with passengers #266,267,268 in the baggage column.

271, bracketed together in the baggage column with passenger #270.
273, age unreadable. May be ?4, though the position of the 4 suggests that
it is 4?. There may be an umlaut over the u in the surname.
274, age unreadable. Could be 30. Passengers #274,275,276, are bracketed
together in the baggage column.
275, age unreadable. Could be 27. Passengers #274,275,276, are bracketed
together in the baggage column.
276, name may be Joh^s. Age is 25 or 35. Passengers #274,275,276, are
bracketed together in the baggage column.

Bracketed together in baggage column with passenger #278.
278, surname is Frisko or Trisko. Bracketed together in baggage column with
passenger #277.
280, first number in age may be a 3 or a 5. Second may be a 1,4,7 or 9.
Could be 57.
281, there are one to two unclear letters in the surname. It may be Garster
or Ganter. Age may be 38 or 58.
283, given name may be John.
284,285, age unreadable. Passengers bracketed together in baggage column.
287, age unreadable.
289, surname may be Mustay or Muslay.
290, age is very faint. It could be 6?.
291, age may be 50 or 30.
292, first letter of given name may be a J or a squished H. The first missing
letters in the surname look like a series of three short upward strokes with dips
connecting them, as if there is a combination of letters such as iu,ui,eu,ue,in,en.
The name appears to be Tr??schutz with an umlaut over the u, however it is possible
that it is Tr??schiltz.
293,294, bracketed together in baggage column.
295, age may be 25.
297, there appears to be one unreadable letter at the beginning of the surname.
298, a major portion of surname is too faint to read. The missing letters do
appear to be low letters such as m,n,s or o, rather than tall ones like l or t. Age
may be 31 or 37. Passenger is bracketed together with passengers #299,300 in baggage
column.
299, given name may be Alphons. Age may be 8. Dittos indicate passenger's
surname is the same as that of passenger #298. Passenger is bracketed together with
passenger 298,300 in the baggage column.
300, dittos indicate passenger's surname is the same as that of passenger #299.
Passenger is bracketed together with passengers 298,299 in the baggage column.
