I, R. Bussius, Master of the Norddeutscher Lloyd S.S. Werra do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Collection District , of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said N.D. Lloyd Werra has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage and the dates and names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement , so far as can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien as to a protracted sojourn in this country.
So help me God. (signed) R Bussius

Transcriber's Notes:
The column, Date and Cause of Death, has been eliminated because there were no deaths on this
voyage.
The column, Destination, has been eliminated from the transcription to save space. All
passengers are recorded as being destined for the United States of America.
The column, Transient, In Transit or Intending Protracted Sojourn, has been eliminated. It
was not used for most of the passengers, with the following exceptions.
*Passengers 116 through 128, In Transit.
*Passengers 129 through 174, Transient
The last column on the right has no heading. The places listed may indicate where the
passengers journeyed from.
Several pages of this manifest are so faint as to be virtually unreadable. Question marks
indicate letters or, in some cases, entire words that are unreadable due to the condition
of the manifest copy. Where possible, further information as to what these letters or words
might be is included in these notes.
In some instances where there is a transcriber's note indicating that a name or number "may
be" something, the information following may be little more than a guess based on portions
of letters that can be seen or that appear as little more than shadows.
Some passengers are bracketed together in the baggage column. This notation may
indicate that the baggage count listed in the entry of one of the bracketed passengers,
is the combined baggage of those passengers that are grouped together, or that these
passengers are travelling together.
When more than one member of a family with the same surname is listed on this manifest,
the surname is almost always only written out for the first person in the group. All
individuals listed directly under that person show only ditto marks for a surname. Thus,
when the surname for the first family member is unreadable, there are no additional
instances of the name to look at. The one exception to this is when the family group
happens to continue onto the top of a second page and the list writer rewrites the surname.
The use of a ^ indicates that the following letter is a superscript.
With rare exception, only men are listed as tourists, therefore in instances where the sex
of the passenger cannot be read, and the calling is listed as tourist, it is likely the
passenger is male.
1, most of entry unreadable.
2, most of entry unreadable. Number in baggage column may be 3.

Passengers #40,41 are bracketed together in the baggage column. It should be noted

by as many as four letters.

63, parts of entry unreadable. Surname may be Weinberg.
64, age not visible.
65, age not visible.
66,67 most of entries unreadable. There does not appear to be a surname
written for passenger #67, which probably indicates there are ditto marks present to carry
down the surname of passenger #66. Second letter in that surname may be an l or t.
The fourth letter extends below the line like a p might. The fifth letter extends upward
like an h,l,t, etc. Any letters following these are too faint to characterize.
Passengers bracketed together in baggage column.
68, most of entry unreadable. There may be an initial in front of the name
that begins with the G. It appears to be a rounded letter such as an O or C.
