SS City of Washington
I, Henry Tibbitts, Master of the Br. Str. City of Washington, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Steamer at Liverpool, from which Port the said Str. has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died. So help me God. (Signature) Henry Tibbitts.
Sworn to this Feb'y 18 1868,
Before me. (Signature) ??????????.
List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the SS City of Washington whereof Henry Tibbitts is Master, from Liverpool, burthen 1078 tons.
Columns represent: given name and surname, age, sex, occupation, the country to which they severally belong, and the part of the vessel occupied during the voyage. Since all the passengers intend to become inhabitants of the "U.S. of America", and no one died during the voyage, these two columns are omitted in this transcription.

Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be
transcribed definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of
the manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader
should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is
superscripted.
The transcribers numbered all the passengers consecutively 1 through 118, but
the recorder of the original manifest numbered the Steerage passengers 1
through 85, and then the Cabin passengers 1 through 33.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviated given names by writing the
first few letters of the name. Sometimes he abbreviated given names by
writing the first few letters of the name, then skipping letters and then
writing the final letter as superscripted and underlined. In these cases,
the transcribers use the symbol (^) to indicate that the following letter is
superscripted and underlined, i.e., W^m for William, Cha^s for Charles,
Rich^d for Richard, etc.
"Male" and "Female" in the Sex column are shortened in this transcription to
"M" and "F" for formatting reasons.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviated a passenger's Occupation such
as "Mech" for "Mechanic" or "Lab" for "Labourer".
1-2 Last three letters of suname are not clearly formed, but surname is/
possibly "Golden", "Goluen" or "Goluer".
5-9 Surname is possibly "Sraddon" or "Snaddon".
16 Surname appears to be either "McCann" or "McCarns".
27 Given name is either 'Arth" or "Anth".
36 Given name is faint and not clearly written, but is likely "Edw^d". There
is no entry recorded for passenger's occupation.
37 Surname appears to be either 'Jusot" or "Jersot".
38 Surname appears to be either "Wepner" or "Wegner".
39 Surname appears to be either "Wetchel" or "Mitchel".
52 Surname is possibly "Magil", "Majel" or "Majil".
55-56 Surname appears to be written as "Pozser".
57 Surname is either "Lawrence" or "Laurence".
60 Surname may be "McHenry" or "Henry", i.e. full name might be "John M.
Henry".
61 Surname may be "Canaher" or "Carraher".
64 Surname is poorly written so it is questionable as to what the letters
might be, but name is possibly "Flour", "Flore" or "Flars".
68 Given name is written as "Carth", but might actually be "Cath".
70 Given name can not be deciphered as leters are not clear, but might be
"Thos".
71 Given name is not clearly written, but might be "Jno".
73 Surname may be "Larrey" or "Lowrey".
80 Surname may be "Word" or "Ward".
84 Middle letters are very poorly formed so that name may be anything like
"Nurnan", "Nunan", "Nonon", or "Nonan".
91 Given name may be "Ami", "Ann" or "Ama".
92 Surname may be "Huse", "Hirse" or "Herse"; Middle letters are poorly
formed.
98 Surname may be McLaren" or "Laren". Full name might be "Hy M Laren".
99 Surname may be "Kirby" or "Kuby".
110-111 Surname might be "Krinler", "Hunter" or "Himler".
116-118 First letter of surname is uncertain, perhaps a "B", resulting in
surname "Boshes".
