Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of
the manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader should
refer.
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is
superscripted.
The transcriber numbered the passengers consecutively 1-288, even though they
are not numbered in the original manifest.
The recorder of the manifest abbreviates most given names by writing only the
first few letters of the name. Other times he abbreviates given names by
writing the first few letters of the name, then skipping letters and then
writing the final letter as superscripted. In these cases, the transcribers
use the symbol (^) to indicate that the following letter is superscripted,
i.e., Cha^s for Charles, Ja^s for James, Joh^a for Johanna, W^m for William,
etc.
The recorder lists the Occupation of every adult male passenger as "Lab" for
(Labourer). The transcriber believes this to be a time saving convenience for
the recorder as it is highly unlikely that among the 288 passengers there is
not even a single "Farmer", "Mechanic" or other occupation common to
immigrants.
The recorder often varies the spelling of countries (e.g., Luxembourg,
Luxemburg and Luxemberg). The transcription contains the spelling as it is
recorded in the manifest.
4 Surname clearly begins "Gr" followed by two letters which are not clearly
formed, perhaps "im" or "un" followed by "best" or "hest". Surname is
possibly "Grimbest", "Grimhest", "Grunbest" or "Grunhest".

decipher with certainty, but might be "ar" or "ou", followed by "lson",

clearly listed as a "Male" and has an occupation of "Lab".
