Transcriber's Notes:
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The "F. Steamer Napoleon III" in the sworn statement likely means that the steamship
was of French ownership or registry.
The master's name Lemarie has an accent over the last "e".
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader should refer.
11 There is a mark above the middle vowel in surname "Adele", perhaps a dotted "i"
resulting in surname "Adile", or an accent.
12 Last vowel in surname is either "o" or "e" resulting in possible surname
"Houghtoy" or "Houghtey".
14 Last letter in surname appears to be either a dotted "i" or an "e" with an accent
mark, resulting surname "Doli" or "Dole".
16 Surname appears to be either "Krauthalm" or "Krauthahn".
22 Passenger's name appears to be recorded with surname first followed by first name
initial. Occupation is recorded as "Deyer & ?ourer" in which the unknown
letter is difficult to decipher, but might be "K" or "H" or even "Sl".
22-25 First "e" in surname "Briere" appears to have an accent above it.
24-25 Passenger's name appears to be recorded with surname first followed by first
name initial.
29 Last letter of surname appears to be "e" with an accent above it.
39 Surname appears to be either "Casar" or "Coesar".
41 Surname appears to be either "Barnberger" or "Bamberger".
42 Surname appears to be either "Knotel" or "Knoteh".
50 Surname is either "Neurohr" or "Newrohr".
53 Surname is either "Brecht" or "Bricht".
