Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the
transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information in the
transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the condition
of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
These passengers were numbered by the transcriber, not on the original film.
No one died on this passage and so the Died on this Passage column has been omitted.
8 Surname could also be "Morgan" or "Monjean": writing unclear.
10 After this passengers' occupation name comes the abbreviation "v.s." or possibly
"n.s.", whose meaning is unknown.
16 This surname might also be "Harner."
17 According to "Ranks, Occupations, and Trades" at www.gendocs.demon.co.uk, the
occupation name "Turner" may mean either (1) a lathe operator or (2) a gymnast,
particular a street performer or beggar.
18 Age could also be "30": the "0" shows a darker stroke on its left side, suggesting
that the writer was either trying to make a "0" into a "1" or the reverse.
22 The age could either be 15 or 45: a thin horizontal ink smear through the middle
of the name and age columns makes the first number unclear.
26 First name is written as "La Femme", which in French means "the woman". Appearing
before a surname and after a man's surname that is the same, as here, it probably
means the spouse of the previous male passenger rather than her actual first name.
32 The occupation name was first written "Baker," then erased without naming another
occupation.
34 First name is written as "La Femme", which in French means "the woman". Appearing
before a surname and after a man's surname that is the same, as here, it probably
means the spouse of the previous male passenger rather than her actual first name.
35 The first name is written as "Sun Fils" probably a misspelling of the French phrase
"Son Fils", meaning "his son": in this sequence of passengers with the same surname
it probably is not his actual first name; but it refers to his relationship to T. J.
Gonaux, passenger 33.
41 The occupation could be "Mainer" instead, but this does not make sense; handwriting
unclear.
42 The occupation could be "Mainer" instead, but this does not make sense; handwriting
unclear.
44 Surname could be "Sirda."
46 Initial has faded and cannot be read.
50 After this passengers' occupation name comes the abbreviation "v.s." or possibly
"n.s.", whose meaning is unknown.
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M272, Reel 17.
