Rotterdam, Netherlands to New York
21 July 1884

DISTRICT OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, G. Bakker, Master of the Steamship Maasdam, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Rotterdam from which Port the said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, sex, and calling of each of the said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a projected sojourn in this country. So help me God. (signed) G. Bakker. Sworn to this 21 July 1884, Before me. (signed) ?????????.
List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the Steamship Maasdam whereof G. Bakker is Master, from Rotterdam, burthen 1017 tons.
Columns represent: given name and surname, age, sex, calling, the country of which they are citizens, location of compartment or space occupied, and number of pieces of baggage. Since the destination of all of the passengers was the United States, where each intended a protracted sojourn, and no one died during the voyage, those three columns were omitted in this transcription.

Transcriber's Notes:

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something that the reader should note.

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
  definitely.

The destination of all of the passengers was the United States where eash intended
to become a permanent settler. The word "Permanent" was entered for each passenger
in the column which asked if the passenger was a transient, in transit or intended
a protracted sojourn in the United States.

139 Surname appears to be either "Hawaitil" or "Hawaitis".

creates frescoes, the art of painting on fresh plaster.
194 Age is probably 47, but might be 41.
198 Calling appears written as "Sunsmith", but likely is "Gunsmith".
205 In the place of a surname, the recorder has written a dash, perhaps
implying that he didn't know the surname, or that the surname was the
same as the previous passenger, "Nilssen", although the recorder
usually used ditto marks to imply this.
