Transcriber’s Notes:
* An asterisk * indicates the original recorder may have made an error or that the
transcriber is adding a clarification or interpretation.
* A question mark ? indicates that a word or letters could not be read due to the
original recorder’s handwriting or the quality of the original document.
* Regarding passengers’ names, note that passengers #1-38 travelling in First and
Second Cabins (the apparent equivalent of first and second class) were listed with
titles (Mr, Mrs, Miss) and usually with an initial in lieu of the full given name,
although for some of these passengers there was no initial, while passengers #39-92
in Intermediate class and Steerage were listed with full given name but no title.
* Regarding passengers’ occupations: Occupations of the following passengers were
indicated by ditto marks: #27-29 (Sister of St Joseph), 32-38 (Merchant),
73, 77-78 (Laborer), 85 (miner), 87 (farmer). Where no occupation was given,
the original recorder inserted a horizontal squiggle, which was the case for all
children and most females.
21 Occupation Loyer spelled as written; most likely a lawyer.
26 Sister L??l? Anges. Nuns use names of saints, so 'Anges' might be misspelling for
'Agnes.' Name preceding 'Anges' is illegible due to fading on the original document
except for first and fourth letters.
41 Given name looks like Victor, but could Hector.
42 Given name is illegible due to fading on the original document. Surname looks like
Cirani but could be Cirasi. First two letters of occupation are illegible due to
fading on the original document.
43 Occupation Taylor spelled as written; most likely a tailor.
63 Occupation Taylor spelled as written; most likely a tailor.
71 Given and surname are covered by a black smudge on original document. Illegible.
74 Given name for this male is written ‘May.’ Unknown if this was a nickname or
abbreviation.
76 Surname looks like Scuri but could be Scieri.
79 Age looks like 19 but could be 17.
80 Fourth letter in surname is faded; could be ‘g’ although no loop is visible below
the line; if so name would be Knight.
88 In surname the fourth letter is either ‘l’ or ‘k;’ therefore the surname could be
Wills or Wilks.
89 Given name has approximately five letters but is illegible due to fading on the
original document.
90 In surname, fourth letter is either ‘h’ or ‘k,’ sixth letter has loop above line
and may be ‘l;’ therefore the name may be Nicholles or Nickolles.
91 In surname, there are four or five illegible letters preceding ‘arn.’ Occupation
is not clear but could be ‘shoemaker.’
92 Surname has at least seven letters but is illegible.
