Liverpool, England via Queenstown, Ireland to New York
21 March 1868

DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, John Macanlay, Master of the R.M.S. "Java", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly sware that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said R.M.S. "Java" at Liverpool and Queenstown, from which Ports the said R.M.S. "Java" has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the R.M.S. "Java" whereof John Macanlay is Master, from Liverpool via Queenstown, burthen 1760 tons.
Columns represent: given name and surname, age, sex, occupation, the country to which they severally belong, the country of which they intend to become inhabitants, and part of the vessel occupied during the voyage. Since no one died during the voyage, this column is omitted in this transcription.

Transcriber's Notes:

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed 
definitely.

A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is
superscripted.

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of
the manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader should
refer.

13  The bottom of the first page of the manifest is damaged, obscurring the
    name of the last passenger on the page and rendering it entirely
    undecipherable.
41  Full entry of passenger's occupation is "Master Mariner".
42  Surname is possibly "Linglud" or "Lingend".
