SS Italia
I, Fr. Reuter, Master of the German S.S. Italia do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said German S.S. Italia at Swinemunde from which port said German S.S. Italia has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and the names and the ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. additional information in the Transcriber's Notes. * Swinemunde - A fishing, naval and frontier post, lies on the Pomeranian Gulf in contemporary Poland and is now called Swinoujscie, Poland. * Names were transcribed as written without regard to spelling. * No births or deaths were recorded during the voyage. * Passenger sex was abbreviated to f and m for female and male by the transcriber. 86-89 Umlaut u in surname. 107-112 Umlaut a in surname. 120 Umlaut u in surname. 151-156 Umlaut a in surname. Correspondence added 10-20-2006, passengers 164-169, Gaarz I have been working on the GARZ line and found the grandparents on the Italia transcribed by Robert W. Grose. They were listed on German S.S. Italia at NY Por on 29 April 1892. The were 164 August Gaarz, 165 Albertina Gaarz, and children 166 Franz Gaarz, 167 Otto Gaarz,168 Auguste Gaarz, 169 Julius Gaarz. They settled in Nebraska where two more sons and a daughter were born and then homesteaded in Squirrel, Idaho. August and Albertina are both buried in the Squirrel cemetery along with their son Franz who never married. garzfarm@fretel.com
