So help me God. (No signature). Sworn to this 30 June 1884, before me. (signed) ????????

Transcriber's Notes:
The column for recording whether the passenger was a transient or in transit or intending
protracted sojourn was ommitted because all the passengers except two were intending a
protracted sojourne in the U.S.A. Passenger #43 was listed as a transient and passenger #189
was listed as a visitor. Since no one died during the voyage, that column too was omitted in
this transcription.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting
of the manifest or something that the reader should note.
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be
transcribed definitely.
* Although recorded in this manifest as "Schjenenlick", the Captain's surname is given as
"Schjerbeck" in other references. (See Historical Note at bottom of Transcriber Notes below).
* Although left blank in this manifest, the SS Geiser's tonnage was 2,831 tons gross,
1,993 under deck and 1,818 net.
155 Given name not clearly written. First letter is unclear. Second letter is also
unclear but might be a "u" or an "a". The remaining letters appear to be "dith".
Name might be "Judith".
158 Given name not clearly written. First letter may be "L" or "S"; Remaining letters
are undecipherable. Name could possibly be "Loren" or "Soren".
163 Given name apears to be "Ama", but might be "Anna".
164 Given name appears to be "Garda", but might be "Gerda".
174 Middle name appaers to be "Akes", "Akis" or "Aker" with an accent mark (-)
above the "A".
177 and 178 Surname appears to be "Jenson", but might be "Janson".
179 Given name appears to be "Alma" but could be "Alicia".
180 Surname appears to be "Ekman" but could be "Ekison" or "Ekenan".
184 Surname appears to be "Svord" but could be "Svard". Accent mark (") above the vowel
"o" or "a" in surname.
185 Given name is either "Hilma" or "Helena". Middle name appears to begin with "Th",
followed by an "o" or "a"; and the last three letters appear to be "jea".
Middle name might be "Thojea" or "Thajea" or something similar.
189 Surname is either "Schiander" or "Schander". In the column for recording whether
the passenger was a transient or in transit or intending protracted sojourn,
passenger #189 was listed as a "vicitor", probably meaning "visitor".
192-195 Surname appears to be "Nelson", but might be "Nilson".
196 Surname is "Fehr" or "Tehr".
197 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Gustav.
199 The Calling is likely "Sailor" even though clearly recorded as "Saylor".
200 The surname "Olberg" is clearly written and may be the entire surname, but an ink
smudge covers the end of the surname and may be covering additional letters which
are not visible. Age appears to be "20" but could be "30".
201 Surname appears to be "Hovimb" but could be "Horimb".
203 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Rasmus.
205 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Gustav and (") above the "A" in Aasland.

219 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Augusta.
224 The "M" in the Sex column is likely a recording error because "Brita" is a feminine
given name, the Calling is listed as "Mrs" and she is traveling with a child.
236 The Calling is likely "Sailor" even though clearly recorded as "Saylor".
239 The Calling is likely "Sailor" even though clearly recorded as "Saylor".

Historical Note [extracted from The Solem, Swiggum & Austheim Emigration Ship Index website]
The "SS Geiser" was built at Copenhagen for the Thingvalla Line. Her tonnage was 2,831 tons
gross, 1,993 under deck and 1,818 net. She was 324.4 feet long, of iron construction and
had a service speed of 11 knots. There was accommodation for 50 1st class passengers, 50
2nd class passengers, and 900 3rd class passengers (steerage). The Geiser was launched in
August 1881. She sailed from Copenhagen on her maiden voyage to Christiania (Oslo),
Christiansand and New York on 10th January 1882 and continued on this service her last voyage.
On 14th August 1888, while homeward bound from New York, she was in collision with her sister
ship the "Thingvalla" and sank with the loss of 105 lives. A vivid description of the disaster
is available at: Wrecks/Thingvalla and at Wrecks/Geiser
