Transcriber's Notes:

The column for recording whether the passenger was a transient or in transit or intending
protracted sojourn was ommitted because all the passengers except two were intending a
protracted sojourne in the U.S.A. Passenger #43 was listed as a transient and passenger #189
was listed as a visitor. Since no one died during the voyage, that column too was omitted in
  this transcription.

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting
of the manifest or something that the reader should note.

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be
  transcribed definitely.

* Although recorded in this manifest as "Schjenenlick", the Captain's surname is given as
"Schjerbeck" in other references. (See Historical Note at bottom of Transcriber Notes below)

* Although left blank in this manifest, the SS Geiser's tonnage was 2,831 tons gross,
1,993 under deck and 1,818 net.

1 The "M" entry in the Sex column is likely a recording error because "Frederikke"
is a feminine given name and the Calling is listed as "Wife".
6 The "M" entry in the Sex column is likely a recording error because "Kirsten"
is a feminine given name and the Calling is listed as "Servantgirl".
12 Age appears to be "30" or possibly "50".
16 Surname appears to be "Splied", but could be "Splud" with an (") accent mark
    over the "u".
18 and 19 The Calling is likely "Sailor" even though clearly recorded as "Saylor".
32 The Calling is likely "Teacher" even though clearly recorded as "Teacherin".
34 Surname is "Kofoed" or possibly "Kafoed".
35 The Calling is likely "Baker" even though clearly recorded as "Backer".
38 Surname appears to be "Rodian" or possibly "Radian".
39 Age appears to be written as "33" but could possibly be "38".
43 Country of Citizenship appears to be "Sandvechsoerne". In the column for recording
whether the passenger was a transient or in transit or intending protracted sojourn,
Passenger #43 was listed as a "transient".
Below passenger #43 is another line containing the name "Karen Hansen" but a
straight line has been drawn through all the recorded information indicating that
the passenger was not aboard when the ship embarked.
44 Last two letters of surname unreadable, but surname probably is "Christensen".
46 Accent mark (') over the vowel "o" in Sorensen.
50 and 51 Accent mark (-) over the vowel "u" in Kondrup.
54 Below passenger #54 is another line containing the name "Jens Olesen" but a
straight line has been drawn through all the recorded information indicating that
the passenger was not aboard when the ship embarked.
55 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Paul and (') above the vowel "o" in Kork.
56-59 Accent mark (') above the vowel "o" in Kork.
64 Accent mark (") above the vowel "a" in Jargen and in Jargensen.
68 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Paulsen.
69 Accent marks (-) above the vowel "u" in Antonius and in Glud.
70 Middle initial is likely "T" or "J".
72 The Calling is likely "Minister" even though clearly recorded as "Minnister".
82 Surname appears to be "Jensen", but could be "Jansen". Accent mark (-) above
    the vowel "u" in Rasmus.
84 Accent mark (') above the vowel "a" in Jorgensen.
86 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Rasmus.
87 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Hastrup.
88 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" and (') above the vowel "a" in Gustaf.

appear to be "en". Name could possibly be "Loren" or "Soren".
110 Accent mark (') above the vowel "o" in Sorensen.
113 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Rasmus and Rasmusen.
Below passenger #113 are two other entries containing the names "Chr. Nielsen" and
"Ane Nielsen" but a straight line has been drawn through all the recorded
information indicating that the passengers were not aboard when the ship embarked.
118 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in given name Laurine.
119 Accent mark (-) above the vowel "u" in Knudsen.
121 Surname could be "Woller", "Holler" or "Koller". Accent mark (') above the
    vowel "o" in surname.
129 Given name poorly written. First letter appears to be an "H"; Third and fourth
letters appear to be "nn"; and last letter either an "a" or an "e". Name could
    be "Hanna" or "Hanne".
130 Age clearly recorded as "7", so passenger was not married as indicated by "Mrs."
in the Calling column. Passenger is likely the child of passenger #129.
131 Calling appears to be "Bookkey", but the second letter is unclear.
132 Given name is not clearly written. First letter is an "R"; third letter may be
an "e"; fourth letter is undecipherable; last three leters appear to be "ste".
134 Surname is either "Petterson" or "Patterson". Age not clearly written. It appears
to be "24", but might be " 21".
139-142 Surname is "Thelandes", "Thalandes or "Thalantes".
149 Given name is either "Thekla" or "Thikla".

Historical Note [extracted from The Solem, Swiggum & Austheim Emigration Ship Index website]

The "SS Geiser" was built at Copenhagen for the Thingvalla Line. Her tonnage was 2,831 tons
gross, 1,993 under deck and 1,818 net. She was 324.4 feet long, of iron construction and
had a service speed of 11 knots. There was accommodation for 50 1st class passengers, 50
2nd class passengers, and 900 3rd class passengers (steerage). The Geiser was launched in
August 1881. She sailed from Copenhagen on her maiden voyage to Christiania (Oslo),
Christiansand and New York on 10th January 1882 and continued on this service her last voyage.
On 14th August 1888, while homeward bound from New York, she was in collision with her sister
ship the "Thingvalla" and sank with the loss of 105 lives. A vivid description of the disaster
is available at: Wrecks/Thingvalla and at Wrecks/Geiser
