The Master noted that 502 passengers had started the journey, 3 had
died on board, one was born on ship for a total of 500 passengers
upon arrival in New Orleans.

Transcriber's family passengers #246 & 247 Scheke
I don't have definitive proof yet, but after searching a lot of
records and Don Schmalbeck of the ISTG digging through a lot of old
manifests, we very strongly believe that passengers 246 and 247, Wilhelm and
Hulda "SCHEKE", are my great grandparents Wilhelm and Hulda "SEHLKE". My
great grandparents emigrated from Gross Golle, Posen Prussia to Gay Hill,
Washington County, Texas in 1881 where they raised a large family and lived
until their deaths in 1937 and 1916, respectively. If my assumptions are
correct, the proper spelling of their surname should have been either SEHLKE
or SELKE. Presently our family spells it SEHLKE, however, a number of old
records show various spellings (e.g., SEHLKE, SELKE and Zeelke). Wilhelm's
parent's (Jacob and Caroline) headstones are marked with SELKE, however,
Wilhelm's and Hulda's headstones and all the other family members
thereafter, spell it SEHLKE. If anyone cares to contact me about the SEHLKE

Historical Note:
The SS Frankfurt was built in 1869 for North German Lloyd of Bremen by Caird & Co,
Greenock, Scotland. She was a 2,582 gross ton ship, length 300ft x beam 39ft, clipper
stem, one funnel, two masts (rigged for sail), iron construction, single screw and a
speed of 10 knots. There was capacity for 30-1st and 600-3rd class passengers.
Launched on 18th Jun.1869 for the Bremen - New Orleans service, but she started her
first voyage from Bremen to Havre and New York on 30th Jun.1870. She was laid up
during the Franco-Prussian War and then between 1871-1874 was mainly employed on
the New Orleans service, but also made six round voyages to New York during this
period. In 1880 her engines were compounded and she commenced her last North Atlantic
voyage between Bremen and Baltimore on 8th Mar.1882. Subsequently she sailed between
Bremen and South America, starting her final voyage on 30th Sep. 1893.
In 1894 she was sold to Sir W. G. Armstrong, Mitchell & Co, shipbuilders, in part
payment for two new ships. Sold to Italian owners in 1895, she was scrapped in Italy
in 1897.
