I, A. Thomson, Master of the S.S. Denmark, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Steam Ship at L'pool and Q'town, from which Ports the said Steamer has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. Transcriber's Notes:
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader should refer.
The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively even though they are not
numbered in the original manifest.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates given names by writing the first few
letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter as
superscripted. In these cases, the transcribers use the symbol (^) to indicate that
the following letter is superscripted, i.e., Mich^l for Michael, Marg^t for Margaret,
W^m for William, etc. Othertimes, the recorder abbreviates names by writing the
first few letters, skipping letters and then adding the final letter of the name,
i.e., Patk for Patrick, Margt for Margaret, Thos for Thomas, etc..
In writing names of passengers, the recorder as a matter of routine substituted
"Mc" for "Mac" in surnames of the Irish passengers.
The recorder often abbreviates the Occupation of passengers, e.g., "Lab^r" for
Laborer, "Ser^t" for Servant, and "Gent^n" for Gentleman.
256-257 Surname appears to be written as "Casanelli", but might possibly
be "Casavelli".
263 Given name "Eudie" or "Endie".
266 Name is recorded as "Alfed", but is likely actually "Alfred". Surname is
recorded as "Patridge", but might possibly be "Partridge".
284 Surname is written as "Dingvan", but might actually be "Dingevan".
286 Surname is recorded as "Timony", but might actually be "Timoney".
287 Passenger has a masculine given name and his Occupation is "Labourer", yet
his Sex is recorded as "Female", likely a recording error.
290 Surname is either "Gagan" or "Eagan".
292 Surname is recorded as "Wilcock", but might possibly be "Wilcox".
298 Surname is recorded as "Doncey" or "Doucey", but might possibly be "Dorcey".

or "McDonough".
450 Surname is recorded as "Doly", but might possibly be "Dolly".
456 Passenger has a feminine given name and her Sex is listed as "Female", yet
her Occupation is recorded as "Lab^r", likely a recording error.
500 Surname is possibly "Foulue", "Fonlue", "Fonline", "Fouline, "Foubie"
or "Fonbie".

Correspondence 05/17/2004 passenger #427 Brennan
My grandfather is immigrant #427, John BRENNAN. The only information
I have is that he was apparently single, born circa 1842 possibly in
County Roscommon or thereabouts. (or perhaps Co. Galway) He was
probably a laborer or apprentice stonemason. He had no special
destination in the United States but ended up in Plattsmouth, Nebr.
(1870) and went to work for the railroad.....building through the
West into Texas and Oklahoma. Bee Foutz
