The Ship Ceres was designed for about thirty passengers but it embarks 58* of them, namely:
- 16 in 1st class,
- 10 in 2nd class,
- 32 in 3rd class.
Columns represent: Number, name, age, origin*, function*. (Passengers 1-16 were listed in First Class; Passengers 17-52 were all in steerage, but some were individually designated as steerage 2nd class or steerage 3rd class. The "origin" column indicates from where the passengers came. The "function" column lists titles, occupations, relationship to others on board, destination, or other miscellaneous comments.)

Transcriber's Notes:

*  An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
   the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
   in the transcriber's notes.

?  Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
   condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.

*  There were 58 passengers stated as on board, but the names and information
   for some of the passengers (as shown by passenger numbers followed by
   no information) were not listed in the narration by Ernest de Massey.
   There were 8 crew members, making a total of 66 on board.

   The following French accents were used by the author:
      Grave (L'accent grave): (`);
      Acute (L'accent aigu):  (as the "e" in été);
      Circumflex (L'accent circumflex): (^).
   The cedilla (La cedille) (as the "c" in Français)is only used under the
   letter "c", indicating that letter is pronounced as an "s".

   The ship's name, Ceres, had an acute accent over the first "e" and a grave
   accent over the second "e": Cérès.

   Possible updates to this ship, as well as additional information, may be

 3  Mr Blanc was called "the Pirat". There is an acute accent over the "e" in
    Chambery.
 6  Age thought to be between 22 and 24. Stayed in Lima, Peru.
 7  Acute accent over "e" in Cafe.
 8  Age thought to be about 50
11  Mr Naudet was called de Courcelle.
12  Stayed in Lima, Peru
13  Acute accent over "e" in Chambery.
14  Acute accent over "e" in Veron. Circumflex (^) above the "o" in
    "Haute-Saone". Possible cousin and associate of Ernest de Massey
16  Circumflex (^) above the "o" in "Haute-Saone"; The "c" in "Besancon" has a
    cedilla.
26  The "c" in "Besancon" has a cedilla.
27  Possibly from Seveux.
31  Possibly ADA Champion's close friend.   
35  Passenger was from Le Havre or surroundings.
39  Acute accent over "e" in Nemorin.
42  The "c" in "Besancon" has a cedilla. Prior to living in Besancon this
    passenger was from Switzerland.
44  The "c" in "Francois" has a cedilla. Circumflex (^) above the "o" in
    "Haute-Saone", the place the passenger probably lived.
46  Age thought to be between 50 and 60.       
51  Acute accent over "e" in Serans.        
52  Acute accent over "e" in Theologne.
60  From Geneva, Switzerland.
61  Age thought to be 24.
62  Acute accent over "e" in Felix. Surname unknown. Age thought to be greater
    than 20. Possible Second Lieutenant.
63  Mr Leller was called "Bibelot" which translates to "trinket".
64  Written in quotes: "La Bazin".  
65  Age thought to be about 15.
