Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of
the manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader should
refer.
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be
transcribed definitely.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is
superscripted.
The transcribers numbered the passengers consecutively 1-69, even though they
are not numbered in the original manifest.
The recorder did not always use ditto marks to indicate "same as above". Many
occupation and country of citizenship entries are left blank and the reader
is confronted with the problem of interpreting the recorder's intended
meaning. Occupations are only given in the transcription if the recorder
entered them. Since it was common for recorders not to make an entry in the
occupation column for female passengers or for children, a possible though
not a certain interpretation of the intended occupation where left blank is
that of the occupation of the last adult male entered above. The transcribers
always used the country last entered as the country of citizenship if no
entry was recorded.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviated a passenger's Occupation, such
as "Labr" for "Labourer", "Mech" for "Mechanic", "Mercht" for "Merchant and
"Servt" for "Servant".
2 First two letters of surname are poorly formed and difficult to decipher
with any certainty, but are possibly "Fl" or "Fe" for surname "Flaran" or
"Fearan".
8 Surname is possibly "Degan" or "Degun".
18 Letters of surname are poorly formed and difficult to decipher with any
certainty, but surname is possibly "Kenar", "Kenny", "Kenay" or "Kenan".
19 Given name is not decipherable with certainty due to damage to the manifest
in this area, but name is likely "Lawrence".
21 Surname is possibly "McQueeny" or McQuary".
32 Surname is pooly written and difficult to decipher, but first letter is "P"
followed by "a" and all the other letters are undecipherable except the
last which appears to be "r".
34 Surname is pooly written and difficult to decipher, but the first four
letters are either "Gath" or "Galt". The remaining letters are
undecipherable. Surname is possibly "Gathen" or "Galten" or something
similar.
36 Surname is written as either "Patan" or "Paton", but might actually be
"Patton".
37-41 Although written as "Parter", surname might actually be "Porter".
46 Although the surname appear written as "Rieley", it is possibly "Reiley".
50-52 Letters of surname are poorly formed and difficult to decipher, but
surname is possibly though not certainly "Gurnland".
68 First two letters of surname are not clearly formed, but are possibly "Be",
"Bi", "De" or "Di", resulting in possible surname "Beckley", "Bickley",
Deckley" or "Dickley".
69 First letters of surname are not clearly formed and are difficult to
decipher with certainty, but surname is possibly "Gleuradan", "Hueradan" or
"Thuradan".
