I, T. F. Roskell, Master of the Br Str "City of Boston", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Str at Liverpool, from which Port the said Steamer has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The designation "Br Str City of Boston" in the Captain's sworn statement at the
beginning of the manifest likely implies that the Steamer "City of Boston" is of
British ownership or registry.
The transcriber numbers all the passengers consecutively 1 through 740, but the
recorder of the original manifest numbered the 1st Cabin passengers 1 through 23,
and the Steerage passengers 1 through 717.
For most of the passengers, the recorder lists their full given name, but
for others he employs an abbreviated version of their given name, such as "Chas"
for Charles, "Thos" or "Tho^s" for Thomas, "Hy" for Henry, "My" for Mary, "Margt"
for Margaret and "Jas" for James.
The recorder routinely substitutes "Mc" for "Mac" in the surnames of the Irish
passengers.
The "Orlop Deck" is the lowest deck in a ship having three or more decks.
6 Given name might possibly be "Martin".
10 Surname is recorded as "McCort", but might actually be spelled "McCourt".
14 Surname appears to be written as "McGuin", but might possibly be "McGinn".
33 Surname appears written as "Cose", but might possibly be "Case".
39-41 Surname is either "Minch", "Mench" or "Murch".
42-43 Surname appears to be either "Connell" or "Cormell".
44 Surname is written as "Crolford" or "Cralford", but might possibly be
"Crawford".
49 Passenger's Age is recorded as 21 years, yet his Occupation is listed as
"Infant", clearly a recoding error.
50 Passenger's given name is recorded as "Francis", but it is more likely
to actually be the feminine form "Frances".
69-70 Surname is either "Paster" or "Faster".
73 Surname is recorded as "Conlen", but might actually be spelled "Conlon".
77 Passenger has the feminine given name "Ellen", yet is listed as "Male" with
the Occupation of "Labourer", likely recording errors.
80 Surname appears to be written as "McEmany", but might possibly be "McEneany".
81 Surname is recorded as "Srawley", but might possibly be "Crawley".
