I, T.F. Roskell, Master of the Br. Str. City of Boston, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Str City of Boston at L'pool, from which Port the said Str has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died. Columns represent: given name and surname, age, sex, occupation, the country to which they severally belong, and the part of the vessel occupied during the voyage. Since all the passengers, except passenger 527 (discussed in the Transcriber's Notes below), intend to become inhabitants of the "United States", and no one died during the voyage, these two columns are omitted in this transcription.

Transcriber's Notes:
"Br. Str. City of Boston" in the Captain's sworn statement above likely means
that the Steamer City of Boston was of British ownership or registry.
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The transcribers numbered all the passengers consecutively 1 through 545, even
though the recorder of the original manifest did not number the cabin passengers,
and numbered the other passengers 1 through 516.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviated given names by writing the first few
letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter as
superscripted. In these cases, the transcribers used the symbol (^) to indicate that
the following letter was superscripted, i.e., Ja^s for James, Tho^s for Thomas,
W^m for William, etc.
1 Surname appears to be either "Muchant" or "Merchant".
2-3 Surname is possibly "Burghone" or "Burglione".
13 Surname appears to be either "Lindlay" or "Sindlay".
25 Although written as "Livingstone", surname might actually be "Livingston".
40-47 Name is not clearly written and cannot be decipered with certainty. There is
either a middle name clearly written as "Old" or it is the beginning of the
surname followed by "knoues", "knows" or just "know". Surname possibilities
include "Knoues", "Knows", "know", "Oldknoues", "Oldknows" or "Oldknow".
50 Surname is either Gee" or "Ger".
52 Although written clearly as "Pheobe", given name likely is actually "Phoebe".
55 Surname is either "Gass" or "Goss".
68 Surname is either "Griffith" or "Griffiths".
73 Surname appears to be "Einon" or "Enion".
76 Surname is either "Zerheu" or "Zerhen".
77 Surname appears to be "Leiner", but might possibly be "Seiner".
90 First and last letter of this four letter surname are difficult to decipher with
certainty, but name is possibly "Atis", Atic", "Atie", "Otis", "Otic" or "Otie".
111 Surname appears to be either "Barbochi" or "Barbachi".
114 Given name appears to be either "Gurard" or "Gerrard".
126 Although clearly recorded as "Female", passenger's occupation is listed as

to the transcribers.
141-143 Surname is either "Hanley" or "Hauley".
146 Given name appears to be "John", but is crossed out or overwritten with no
explanation given.
168 Surname appears to be either "McCleet" or "McEleet".
176-177 Surname appears to be either "Ruedahl" or "Rierdahl".
182-186 Surname is either "Keck" or "Kick".
188 Surname appears to be "Olsmier" or "Olemier".
189-191 Surname is either "Lucke" or "Sucke".
194 First letter of surname is faint and difficult to decipher, but is possibly "B"
or "D" resulting in surname "Barcy" or "Darcy".
207 Surname is possibly "Armitage" or "Armutage".
247-250 Surname is either "Lagenbach" or "Sagenbach".
253 Last part of surname is overwritten by letters extending upward from surname
below, but surname is possibly "Harbinger" or "Harbinsser".
254 Surname appears to be either "Amscheng" or "Amsching".
269-270 Surname appears to be either "Bernhauser" or "Beinhauser".
270 Passenger has given name "Angela" and entry in Sex column is "F", but this
entry has been crossed out and "M" written above it. Ditto marks in the column
for Occupation indicates that passenger's occupation is "Farmer".
