SS Baltic
I, R.E. Bence, Master of the "Baltic", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly ( __blank__ ) that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool and Queenstown from which Port the said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, sex, and calling of each of the said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a projected sojourn in this country. So help me God. (signed) Robt. E. Bence. Sworn to this 18 July 1884, Before me. (signed) ?????????.
List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the Baltic whereof R.E. Bence is Master, from Liverpool, burthen 2209 tons.
Columns represent: given name and surname, age, sex, calling, the country of which they are citizens, intended destination or location, location of compartment or space occupied, number of pieces of baggage and whether a transient or in transit or intending a protracted sojourn. Since no one died during the voyage, that column was omitted in this transcription.

Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something that the reader should note.
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
The recorder of the manifest often abbriviated given names by writing the first few
letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter as
superscripted and underlined. In these cases, the transcribers used the symbol (')
to indicate that the following letter was superscripted and underlined, i.e., Tho's
for Thomas, Eliz'th for Elizabeth, etc.
292-296 Surname appears to be either "Lynquist" or "Lunquist".
324 Surname is possibly "Freshey", "Freslery", or "Fresberg".
336 Given name is possibly "Kernder", "Kerunder" or "Herunder".
340 Surname is written as "Peltersen", but is probably "Pettersen".
343 Surname appears to be either "Gallmus" or "Gallmers".
344 Surname is possibly "Kolmke", "Kohnke" or "Kolneke".
347 Surname is written as "Hearcksen" which might be a phonetic spelling of "Eriksen".
353 Surname appears written as "Emmolt" or "Emmott", but is probably "Emmett".
354 Surname is possibly "Morgan", "Moyan" or "Morjan".
380 Surname is possibly "Mugs" or "Meigs".
387 Surname appears written as "Kilgorn", but is probably "Kilgore".
389 Recorder did not enter passenger's citizenship, but it is likely "Ireland", the
same as passenger No. 388, but the recorder forgot to enter ditto marks.
390-391 Given names are written as "Ingberth", but probably are "Engebret".
392 Surname is either "Fest" or "Fist". Baggage included 2 puppies plus 5 bags.
395 Calling is "D.D." which is likely the degree "Doctor of Divinity" since he is
traveling with several clergymen.
399 Baggage included 1 dog plus 6 bags.
412 Surname is either "Baltzell" or "Battzell".
414 Surname is possibly "Pock", "Peck" or "Lock".
415 Surname is either "Wait" or "Waite".
417 Baggage included 1 dog plus 4 bags.
418 The complete entry for Calling is "Med. Insp. U.S. Navy".
420 Given name is possibly "Maides", "Maider", "Marder", "Mardes" or something similar.
421 Given name is possibly "Blasic" or "Blosic".
423-426 Compartment was recorded as "F'ward Steerage".
