SS Alaska
I, Geo. S. Murray, Master of the S.S. Alaska do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool and Queenstown from which port said vessel has now arrived, and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country So help me God. 633-37 The top of the page is missing on the right and with it the entry for
compartment and baggage for passenger 633. The compartment for
passengers 634-637 is indicated by ditto marks to be the same as that
for passenger 633.
645 First name is Fru or Tru.
657,660 The surnames for these two passengers clearly have the i and r in
opposite positions.
675 Age is 20 or 28.
705 Middle initial could be H.
709-11 Name could be Heidhinga, Heihinga or Heilinga.
717-19 These three apparently unaccompanied infants may have families on the
following page (included in this web page) There are Rusche T and Chaim
Sandler, 748 & 749, also from Germany and bound for New York. There
are Chaie, Abram and Frige Louis, 750-3, also from Germany and bound
for New York. There is a Schifra Witzki, 746, also from Germany and
bound for New York. There is also a Franz Witzki, 843, who is
described as from Denmark and bound for Decatur Illinois.
731-34 The second letter looks like a u but is different from the second
vowel, which is clearly a u. It could be an a. Bachmuller or
Buchmuller.
742 There is a detached mark at the end of the surname that looks like an
s, thus the name could be Heinzs.
772-4 The end of the surname for passenger 772 is written over. It looks
like a letter with a tail below the line has been added, but it could
have been crossed out. There are two children elsewhere on the list
(770, 807) where the name is clearly Dwore. This name could be Dwore,
Dwory or Dworz.
770 See above note.
777-8 There is a Sack family farther down the page, 796-99.
791 The third letter of the first name is a vowel, a, e, or o: Snablastzik,
Sneblastzik, Snoblastzik.
803 Name is Noricki or Novicki.
807 See note for 772-4.
819 There is a line between the second letter of the surname, a, and
another vowel, probably an o. This line could be an r or just a
connecting line. The letter after the probable o is an r or v:
Saonin, Saronin, Saovin, Sarovin.
851 Name is Thama or Tlama.
882-85 Last abode could be Denycraig or Penycraig.
