SS Samaria
I, J. B. WATT, Master of the SAMARIA, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of BOSTON is a full and perfect List of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at QUEENSTOWN from which port the said vessel has now arrived; and that on the said list are truly designated the age, sex, and calling of each of the said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of the citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that the said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of the said passengers who have died on the said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. Personal Notes:
* Thomas CONWAY (abt. 1833-1915) was my great-grandfather.
Thomas was the son of John CONWAY and Mary CASEY CONWAY.
His siblings were Patrick, William, David, Kate, John, Johanna, Honor and
Ellen CONWAY.
* Bridget (PURCELL) CONWAY (abt. 1833-1888) was my great-grandmother.
Bridget was the daughter of James PURCELL and Alice DUGGAN.
Her siblings were Alice, Catherine and William PURCELL.
Thomas and Bridget were married Feb. 18, 1860 in Carrickbeg Parish, Ireland.
Thomas and members of his family were employed at Lord and Lady Waterford's
estate, Curraghmore, prior to emigrating to Massachusetts. A sum of money
had been bequeathed to Bridget (PURCELL) CONWAY, and the remainder of the
family came to East Boston where a furnished home awaited them.
Bridget (PURCELL) CONWAY died August 11, 1888, and is buried in the Patrick
MORRISON plot, Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, Massachusetts.
In 1890 Thomas searched through "Missing Friends" for some of his siblings
(from Ballylooby, County Tipperary) who were "Last heard of in 1864 - in
Blackberry Station, Illinois." Two of his brothers were supposedly in Baily,
Iowa.
In September 1893 Thomas married the widow Anna McTIGUE in Mitchell Co.,
Iowa. In May 1915 Thomas died, and is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Wayne
Township, Iowa.
