Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
? used where letters could not be dechipered.
^ indicates endings written in superscript of abbreviated names.
* French accents (ague and grave), as well as umlauts, were used on the
original passenger manifest. The formatter has shown these diacritical
markings in the Passenger Notes, below, and has removed the accents from
the actual transcription in compliance with ISTG procedures.
* The original manifest listed cabin passengers from 1 through 10, then
the following passengers began over with number 1 starting on a different
page. This probably, although not stated, meant that these passengers
were in a steerage area. The formatter has renumbered the passengers
consecutively for ease in referring to the passenger notes.
* The original manifest listed passengers 1 - 10 with initials for both first
and middle names (when known) followed by surnames. The other passengers
were listed last name then given name.
* For the list of regular or steerage passengers each page began with all columns
completed, occupation always being "Farmer". When an entry was made in
column 5, "Country of Birth", I would infer that all passengers following
that entry until the next would have claimed that country of birth.
* Sometimes the Surname column contained a ditto mark or a "do". However,
often the Surname column was left blank and I assumed that these were
family members of the last surname in the column above them. The
formatter has added these surnames in place of the ditto, "do", and blank
entries.
* Some of the numerals in the age column were difficult to read either because
of quality of the microfilm or because sevens and nines were similar and
often the twos had no "tails" and deciding between 9, 7 and 2 was a guess.
The formatter has converted fractions to months, noting this in the
Passenger Notes, below.

Personal Notes
Catherine Braun is the transcriber's great grandmother and Mary Braun was her
sister. The following affidavit of their uncle's widow provides the
circumstances of their journey:
State of Louisiana
Parish of Orleans, Filed Aug 13/94
City of New Orleans
Before me, Francis D. Charbounet a notary Public duly commissioned and
qualified in and for the Parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, Personally came
and appeared: Jeanette Braun widow of John Braun well known to me Notary, of
lawful age, and a resident of this City, who being duly sworn according to law,
deposes & says:
My name is Jeanette Braun, widow of John Braun, who was the uncle of
Catherine and Mary Braun, and I now reside at No. 47 Constance Street, New
Orleans, Louisiana and am over 50 years old. At the request of my husband,
Catherine and Mary came from France, where they were born, directly to our
house in New Orleans, and formed a part of our family. At the time of their
arrival in New Orleans, Catherine was 15 years old and Mary was 11 years old,
and as they continuously lived with us until Catherine married Joseph Kopfler,
I know positively that she had never been married before her intermarriage with
Joseph Kopfler. When my neices (sic) reached New Orleans, Jos. Kopfler was
boarding with us and had been boarding with us for 4 or 5 years before, and I
have every reason to believe he had never been married before his marriage with
Catherine Braun. After Jos. Kopfler was wounded he was brought from the
Hospital to my house and it was some 7 or 8 months before he was able to get
about or do anything. From the time that he was wounded until his death I saw
him often & know that he suffered much pain from his wound and in bad weather
he suffered a great deal from his wound for the ball was never extracted, he
was never a healthy man after he was wounded.
Sworn to and subscribed before me this 6th day of July 1894, in the
presence of Messieurs Lieven De Poorter Jr., and Lieven De Poorter, competent
witnesses of lawful age, who have signed their names together with the appearer
and me notary.
