Ship Neptune
I, E. W. Peabody, master of the Ship Neptune do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Ship Neptune at Liverpool from which the said Ship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage the country to which each belongs and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage and the names and ages of those who died. 1857.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ Indicates letters are omitted and the following letter is superscripted.
Capital "E" and "R" both have a curl at the bottom that looks like a small "e".
These were all disregarded.
There are no "Edward" names, however, there are a lot of "Edwood" names. It is
believed that the Edwood should be Edward.
Passenger Notes:
#272 - First name is unreadable.
#289 - First name third letter obscured by the tail of the "y" in the name above.
There is a gap between the "a" and "r", the letters could be "or" or "oi".
The "t" could be an "l".
#326 - First couple of letters of first name too dark to read.
#328 - First name too dark to read.
#329 - First name too dark to read.
#384 - First name shaded so as to be difficult to read.
#423 - Occupation - only first 4 letters visible and the last could be "l" or "t".
