Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder. * The "f" in Preufsen is probably a "leading s" -- Preussen (Prussia). Personal Notes: The passengers listed as UHDE are the great great grandparents of the contributor, and their children. One more child was born after arrival in the USA. The name is misspelled and should be UDE but it is not an unusual error. Branches of the family did use the spelling with the letter H included. Ours didn't but the ship's master spelled it his way. The family emigrated from the then province of Braunschweig and more specifically, Gittelde in the Harz Mountains. There are still some of the same ancestries there. From New Orleans they went up the Mississippi by riverboat to St. Louis. I have varying descendancies in my records from there. I also have some ancestries. The contributor, George Ude, will be glad to hear from anyone researching UDE, and GIESECKE, the elders of this family's lines.
