Transcriber's Notes:
* The use of an asterick (*) indicates that more information is available in
the notes below.
? The use of a question mark (?) indicates a letter or number that could not
be read due to the quality of the original document.
* The capitalization and spelling are those of the original recorder.
* The original recorder did not number the list. This was done by the
transcriber in order to clarify the added information in the notes below.
* The columns of the original manifest were:
Ports of Embarkation which was deleted by the transcriber, as all Passengers
Embarked from New Ross (New Ross was listed for the first passenger of each
page and large x's were entered in the column);
Name of Passengers;
Adults (with subcolumns for M and F and Total);
Children under 14 Years (with subcolumns for M and F and Total), this total
column was where the ages for all the passengers were written by the original
transcriber;
Profession, Occupation, or Calling of Passenger;
Port at which Passengers have contracted to be landed which was also deleted
by the transcriber, as all Passengers Landed at Baltimore (Baltimore was
listed for the first passenger of each page and large x's were entered in
the column).
* Page 3 The infant listed on line 67 is not included in the Total Children by
the original recorder.
* Page 5 The infant listed on line 128 is not included in the Total Children
by the original recorder.
* Landed
If only 155 Steerage Passengers landed and the document shows a total of 163
Adult Steerage Passengers then it appears that 8 adults died en route to
Baltimore.
The children were counted in the landing of the cabin passengers, but do not
appear to be counted in the landing of the Steerage Passengers unless at
least 20 individuals did not survive the crossing. I can find nothing to
confirm this on the document I have in hand.
It appears that all 9 Cabin Passengers listed landed at Baltimore, even Mary
O????? whose name had a line through it, but yet when adding for the Total
No. of Souls equal to Statute Adults only 6 were added to the adult count,
more than likely the passengers from the cabin, but there were also 6 added
in the Total Children under 14 years column, and at the most there were only
three children in the cabin. The transcriber is unable to figure out this
discrepency in the final count.
Passenger Notes:
# 1 - The first digit of the age of this passenger is not legible.
# 9 - The age of this passenger is not legible, but the last digit is either
an "8" or "3".
# 10 - The first name of this passenger is written by the original recorder as
"Wm", more than likely an abbreviated form of William.
# 23 - There is no age listed for this passenger by the original recorder.
There is also another name on this same line that has been crossed out
by the original recorder.
# 25 - The age of this passenger is not legible due to the quality of the
document.
# 29 - The age of this passenger is not clear and could be either "46" or "16".
# 39 - The first name of this passenger is written by the original recorder as
"Wm", more than likely an abbreviated form of William.
# 67 - There is not a sex listed for this infant, and he/she is not included in
the final aggregate total for the first three pages, nor in the final
count.
# 68 - The Profession, Occupation, or Calling of this passenger is listed as
"Spister", a misspelling of Spinster.
# 80 - There is a line through the name of this passenger; no age is given; and
there is a comment in the column for the port of arrival, but it is not
legible due to the quality of the document. I am assuming the he either
did not make the voyage, or more likely died in route, as he was
included in the passenger count for this page by the original recorder.
# 83 - The second digit of the age of this passenger is unreadable due to the
quality of the document.
# 87 - The second digit of the age of this passenger is not legible due to the
quality of the document.
#104 - The first name of this passenger is written by the original recorder as
"Robt", more than likely an abbreviated form of Robert.
#116 - The second digit of the age of this passenger is not legible due to the
quality of the document.
#118 - The first name of this passenger is written by the original recorder as
"Wm", more than likely an abbreviated form for William. The second
digit of this passenger's age is not legible due to the quality of the
document. He is listed as an adult male which would make his age
between 14 and 19.
#128 - There is not a sex listed for this infant, and he/she is not included in
the final aggregate total for the first 5 pages, nor in the final count.
#152 - The last letter of the first name of this passenger is not legible.
#157 - The first name of this passenger is written by the original recorder as
"Wm", more than likely an abbreviated form of William.
#159 - This passenger is listed as an adult male, but the age entered by the
original recorder is definitely 12 years.
#165 - The unreadable letter in the surname of this passenger may be either an
"i" or an "r".
#166 - Forename of this passenger is unreadable other than the ending of "er".
There appears to be 3 or 4 letters prior to the ending "er".
#169 - There is a line made by the original recorder running through the name
of this passenger making part of the surname unreadable. The age was
not entered by the original recorder. He is counted in the final count
by the original recorder which may mean that he died during the voyage.
#170 - There is a line made by the original recorder running through the name
of this passenger making part of the surname unreadable. The age was
not entered by the original recorder. She is counted in the final count
at the end of this page by the original recorder which may mean that she
died during the voyage.
#171 - There is a line made by the original recorder running through the name
of this passenger making part of the surname unreadable. The age was
not entered by the original recorder. He is counted in the final count
at the end of this page which may mean that he died during the voyage.
#175 - The surname of this passenger is not completely readable, but appears to
only have one letter missing.
#178-#185 - The original recorder listed the surname of these passengers as
"OToole". The surname is more than likely "O'Toole". The original
recorder did not list a Sex or Proffesion, Occupation, or Calling for
the cabin passengers.
#185 - Besides the above discrepancies the age for this passenger is unreadable
due to the quality of the document.
#186 - The surname of this passenger is not readable, as the original recorder
has a line running through the name and age. The first letter of this
surname appears to be an O, but the last letter appears to come below
the line similiar to a "y" or "g". She is counted in the heading:
Landed, 9 Cabin Passengers.
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M255, Reel 7, List 50.
