Correspondence added August 16, 2008 Passengers #35-39 WOLTING
The Wolting Family(Peter, Franziska, Carl, Johann, and Anna) arrived at Baltimore
from Bremen, Germany on the ship "Industrie" as sworn on 27th May, 1865. The family
immigrated from Haaren, Westfalen, Germany. Family records indicate that Anna died
at sea. Peter's given name was Johann. Johann Jr. was also known as Peter. The family
settled at West Point, Nebraska on 160 acres of land approximately 1.5 miles SW of
West Point. The family name was changed to Woelting, and then to Welding because of
difficulty with the umlauted "O". Johann Peter died Dec. 19, 1877 and Franziska died
March 9, 1898. Her name before marriage was Maria Franziska Lorenz. They were married
April 21, 1857 at St. Vitas Catholic Church in Haaren Wesfalen, Germany. They are buried
in St. Michael's cemetery, West Point, Nebraska. Much more information is available.
My name is Clarence Perry. My wife Mary Lou Welding/Perry is directly related to this family.
