I, P. N. Paulsen do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Hamburg Ship Howard whereof I am Master, from Hamburg. Passenger #74, Wilhelmine Beutel, eventually married Carl Werth who had arrived in the U.S. in 1843 aboard the Barque Kammonham Roy (transcribed in Volume 4) and is the greatgrandmother of the transcriber. The Beutels made their home in Niagara County, New York. Passengers #104 to #108, the Johann Friedrich Pfuhl family, are ancestors of the Transcriber's wife, Ruth Haseley Grose. Passenger #108, Ferdinand Pfuhl, is her greatgrandfather.
