Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk * indicates an error on the part of the original record not the
transcriber or is used to call your attention to additional information in the
Passenger or Transcriber Notes.
* The ? mark indicates letters or words that cannot be read due to the quality
of the original document.
* A ^ indicates that the letter(s) following are superscripted.
* New York is recorded as the arrival port though the manifest itself is copied by
NARA on the film for Baltimore. This must be a mistake by the copier for NARA.
* The words, GENERAL SCOTT FEBY 13, 1849, are handwritten in the center of the
document, while the 'Sworn To' section was left blank. The cover sheet for this
ship gives the date of February 5, 1849.
* Sex column has the first two written out as female and male, and after that all
are by letter M or F only.
* The Country to which they severally belong, was only filled out for the first
and last passenger. There is no 'do' or other indication of repeat. Assume all
but #93 are from Ireland.
* The Country in which they intend to become inhabitants, was only filled out for
the first passenger. There is no 'do' or other indication of repeat. Assume all
are intending to inhabit the United States.
Passenger Notes:
* 4 Surname possibly Lowney.
* 5 Surname possibly Lowney.
*12 Surname is smeared. Surname is possibly Hortogan; third letter is midline,
fourth letter goes above midline and is possibly crossed.
*15-19 Surname possibly Coughlan.
*16 First name is smeared badly at end. Unable to determine final letters, but
Marg is clear.
*18 Passengers name is written out in the "died on voyage column".
*36 First name is in a dark crease. Looks to be about 5 letters long. First
letter is possibly an S, L or D; it has a loop at the top. Three middle
letters are all midline. Last letter is either a 'y' or 'g'. Age looks like
20 or 29; top of first matches other 2's and top of second number is circular,
but doesn't match other 3's or 8's.
*58 Second number of age is covered by tape, unreadable.
*61 Page has been torn and taped. Name possibly begins with B; may be two mid or
lower letters; end is possibly 'ris', 'ms', or 'nis'.
*84 The photocopy of the manifest missed this passenger. The list will be
corrected as soon as I can obtain the information. Fragments appear to list
a male in his 20's.
*91 Page is torn. Age probably 20. Assume sex is F.
*92 Page is torn. Age probably 20, 26, or 28. Assume sex is F.
