SS Edinburgh
I, J T Roskell, Master of the Steam Ship Edinburgh, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New-York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said ship at Liverpool from which port said Steam Ship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

348 born at sea is all the information available.
Correspondence 02/10/2003 passengers #63-70 & 348 Phibby/Philby
#'s 63 thru 70. Also I believe # 348 also belongs in that group. This group is
listed as Phibby. These names should read as PHILBY. My grandmother is # 68
Margaret Ann Philby. Her birth certificate shows her born Margaret Ann FILBY
6th of January in sub-district of Dunkinfield in the county of Chester. Her
parents are listed as George Filby and Elizabeth Shelton Filby. Somehow it
ended up as PHILBY when they came to U.S. Probably because they were
illiterate and couldn't tell how it was spelled.
George Sr. listed as farmer I believe was in error as he was always a coal miner.
Betsy is Elizabeth
Sally, I am not familiar with her as she has never shown up in any of the
family history. She is listed as spinster 32 yrs. old, could have been a
sister to George Sr.?
David is brother to grandmother.
Aims J., I have no clue to who this is.
Margaret is my Grandmother. Settled in Appanoose county, Iowa. She 1st
married to W.D. Ritter, had 7 children, W.D. Ritter died 1893. Married my
grandfather Joseph REAR 1895 in Brazil, Iowa. They had 3 children. She passed
away December 28, 1945. My grandmother was 5 yrs old at time of crossing,
not 3 as shown.
George Jr. is listed as 5 yrs, could have flip flopped her and grandma ?
John brother to grandma.
# 348 is hard to make out. There was one brother born at sea on the voyage
over. He was finally named "Captain Francis Edinburgh PHILBY". He went by
"Cap" all his life. This last entry could be him as it is the only one born
at sea.
I was always told he was named after the captain of the ship. Looks as though
may also been named for the ship.
The Philby's were from England, Not Ireland as shown on the Manifest.
Whomever wrote their names probably just either didn't ask or could have
been overlooked.

I have been exploring the 1870 federal cencus about the Philbys.
In looking at it I find that the female listed as Aims J #67
should be Ann J. BILL REAR
