Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ Indicates the word may be abbreviated or that superscript was used for the
subsequent letter.
7 - Given name could be Marien or Mariem.
9 - Given name could be Gerves or Gervas.
14-18 - The surname for number 14 appears to be in a crease or tear. Although
it could be a different surname than the previous passenger, it is
possible there is a ditto mark. There is a ditto mark for each
of passengers 15-18. Given the ages of these four passengers it seems
likely that these are all children of Ann Shores, passenger 11.
32-33 - The surname for these two passengers may be O'Keefe or Keefe.
41-43 - The surname for these three passengers could be Kavanagh or Kavanaugh.
43 - There is a ditto mark in the occupation column. The previous passenger
has no occupation listed.
45 - Surname could be Pounden or Pounder.
55 - Surname could be Flanery, Flanary, Filamery, Filamary, Filannary,
Filannery or Filannery.
57 - Occupation could be Planter, Plaiter or Plaster.
63 - Surname could be Arens or Aren.
113 - Given name could be Jonothan or Jonathan.
118 - Surname could be Hitchen or Kitchen.
198-199 - Surname could be Landrigan or Landrgan.
231 - Surname could be Gillespie or Gillaspie.
239-241 - Surname could be Mallin or Mahan.
243 - Given name could be Bryen or Bryan.
255 - Surname could be Quigly or Quifly.
258 - Given name is unreadable on copy, as is the age of the passenger, due to
a black line, crease, or hole in the copy.
325 - Given name could be Michaelis or Michaclis. No surname was listed, and no
ditto marks to indicate his surname may have been the same as the
previous passenger.
330-331 Surname could be Topendonn or Toppendom.
340 - Surname could be Prozelt or Prozell.
346 - Surname could be Gavan or Govan.
347 - No surname was listed for this passenger and no ditto marks to indicate
that his surname may have been the same as the previous passenger.
Notes by contributor Garth Watson
Picture of Gervas, passenger #9
Number 8 likely was not William Fielding, but William Watson. His age
is correct and he fits in place of oldest to youngest. Number 7 more
commonly can be found spelled Miriam.
I was lucky and fortunate to find this list, but family lore did
hold true on the departure date. While this doesn't prove departure,
how I found this was based on the boat departing on Miriam's 17th
birthday. I do not know what type of vessel this was. If it was a
sailing vessel and the wind was light, it could have very well taken
two months. I spent 24 days of sea time to get from St Marteen to
Gibraltar in '95 on a 62 ft sloop. We were fortunately able to motor
a bit when things were calm. Family lore claimed it was six weeks.
The part of family lore that doesn't hold up is the that the
whole family traveled together. While I could theorize that Gervas
Sr could have signed on as crew and worked for his passage, still
John's wife and child do not appear. The list claims to be all the
passengers and not just the ones who disembarked. That family
allegedly continued on to Detroit. At some point they were exposed to small
pox and quarantined for two weeks in Detroit as Miriam and Alf, John's
five year old son had contracted it. Alf died and was buried there.
After the quarantine was lifted, they proceeded on to Bruces Mines,
Canada. John was also called Jack, and Fielding was also know as Benny.
I can provide further information on my line. Hopefully in the next not too
distant future we will get a book published on the ancestors and decendants of
Gervas Watson and Mary Fielding. Mary, who died before the voyage, was the daughter
of William and Sendonia (Wilkinson) Fielding. The 1841 Lincolnshire census shows
John Watson, age 70, living in the household of Gervas and Mary. The practice of
rounding off ages does not leave for a specific birth year any of the concerned
except the children. It is probable that the father of Gervas was John Watson who
married Susannah Gervas by license 27 Aug 1792.
Children bp with parents listed as John and Susannah Watson
William WATSON bp 25 Aug 1793 Owston, Lincoln
Thos. WATSON bp 20 Nov 1796 Owston, Lincoln
John WATSON bp 20 Nov 1796 Owston, Lincoln
Thomlinson WATSON bp 31 Oct 1799 Owston, Lincoln
Mary WATSON bp 9 May 1802 Owston, Lincoln
Based on the census listing, I believe John was the father of Gervas,
and his name was simply left of the parish register. With John being
alive for the 1841 census and the state taking over vital records in
1835, there should be a death record at St Catherine's House in London
for John Watson. It is possible a death record could lead to a will
which might prove the family connections. It is an area that needs
further research.

The wife of Gervas Sr whose name is curiously missing from this list
as the family had allegedly travelled together, as early mentioned
was Mary Fielding. Mary (Fielding) Watson died 21 May 1845 '8 oclock
at Night' according to notes found in the Constable notebook of Gervas
Watson from Owston."(If I can find it, I can send you the transcipts
of this notebook if you are interested) "The will of Mary Fieldings
father, William, proved 1848, mentions 'Gervas Wadson' and his daughter
'Mary Wadson'. Will can be seen Here
