Transcriber's Notes:
The first two paragraphs above are printed as part of the form for this list. The remaining
paragraphs are two separate stamps placed on the body of the page and then completed.
The pages on this film are not numbered so finding a particular ship can be difficult.
However, there appears to be a system of numbering the manifests. These numbers are
included in the identification of the film and reel numbers below.
The cover sheet for this list has a hand written note and two stamps. The note is:
Respectfully referred to Collector for a ruling as to the rights of the within named Chinese
persons to land (signature) S.J. Ruddell, Dep Surveyor
Land Ham Lee under Dept ruling of Nov 2, 1888, (signature) B.J. Jimne Dep Coll.
The stamps are:
I certify that I have landed the within named chinese(sic) persons (signature) DJ O'Leary
July 26, 1893
Inspector O'Leary on identification by _____ (uncompleted blank) land the within named
chinese(sic) persons in accordance with foregoing order (signature) SJ Ruddell July 26
The following columns had identical entries for all passengers and so were not included in
the table:
No of Certificate=no entries
Complexion=Yellow
Color of Eyes=Dark
If accredited oficers of Chinese Government, state facts=no entries
Passenger Notes:
2 This entire line is crossed out. Since the passenger is not listed as able to land,
and there are only two passengers listed as departing, he probably was not on board.
3 There are 2 notes regarding this passenger. "The woman Mrs Lee Fook alias Chinaman Young
was refused admission and is put on board the Umatilla to be returned to China." SB House
"Put on board SS Umatilla by Collector to be returned to China." SB House Dept Collector
