Correspondence 1/30/02 passengers #239 & 240 Heinemann & Zachariae
Britannia Passengers 239 and 240 are my husbands great grandparents: Jacob
Friedrich Heinemann, and Eva Rosina Catharine Zachariae. I am happy to
exchange information with anyone interested in those families.
The Britannia was one of five ships chartered in 1839 by the Old Lutherans
and Pastor J. A. A. Grabau. The ships were Alfred, Britannia, Republic,
Georgiana, and Echo.
Michael Palmer can provide information about the ship Britannia.

Many thanks for your hard work. I spent years checking microfilm at public
libraries and still have to find several ships carrying family members. I
regularly check your site and recommend it to others.

Correspondence 11/19/02 passengers #213-219 Dopf
It was very exciting to see the names of my ancestors George and Dorothea Dopf
and their children listed as passengers #213-219 aboard the Britannia which
arrived in New York 5 September 1839. Thanks so much for your efforts in
transcribing the list. I had been searching for them for several years
without any luck. They settled in Buffalo, where they added one more child
to the family - Rosina Ernistine Dopf, my great-grandmother.

I have information on the tumultuous early years of that congregation in
Buffalo under the leadership of the imperious Rev. Grabau. If anyone is
interested, I would be happy to share what I have. Larry McGrath
