Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ Indicates letters are omitted and the following letter is superscripted.
The copy of this manifest is rather dark and therefore hard to read. The captain has a very
nice looking handwriting, has a lot of fancy endings or beginning of letters. It is hard to
see if it is another letter or just something to make the letter look nicer. Also some
letters like m, n and u all look the same, e, a and o are hard to distinguish as well. The
letters are not always consistent either, S, I or J look different at the beginning of
different words. Lab or Labr probably stands for Labourer, Chd or Ch probably stands for
child, Ift or Inft might stand for Infant, Spin might stand for Spinster.
14 & 15: the last name could be Chiders, the third letter looks like i but does not have
a dot on top.
22: 4 - 2 is written in the Destination coloumn.
26: 2 - 3 has been written in the Destination coloumn.
37: 5 - 5 has been written behind the name.
41: the second letter of the last name could be i or e.
54 & 55: the letter behind the c could be a k, the last letter could be a p or a fancy
r with a long ending stroke down.
57: the 4th letter in the last name is a small letter, it's illegible since the y from
the name above and a stroke up from the name below is on top of it.
58: the first name seems to be abbreviated.
60: the first letter of the last name is too faint to read.
61: Sus could be an abbreviation for Susan. The 3rd letter in the last name could be b,
which would make the name Daby.
62 - 64: the last letter in the occupation could be l.
63: although Johan is a boy's name, a tick mark in the gender coloumn shows female.
Either the captain made a mistake with the tick mark or he abbreviated a female name.
64: the first letter of the first name could be H, it's very faint and only part of it
can be read. Most of the next 2 letters are too faint, some strokes going up show
that there are 2 letters.
65 & 66: 4 - 4 has been written behind the names.
67: the 4th letter of the last name could be s or r, for Stoser or Storer.
72: the first letter of the first name starts like a fancy C, then goes on like it could
be P or R. The next letter could be v or u, but it looks unfinished, it's not
connected to the next letter.
85 - 89: 22 - 15 has been written behind these names.
91: the 3rd letter in the last name could be r or n, for Hard or Hand.
92 & 93: the first letter of the last name could be N or H for Neal or Heal.
97: although the first name is a female name, it clearly states Male.
122: the first name should probably be Jonathan.
126: 3 - 1 is written behind the name.
132: The last letter of the first name could be g, y or j.
134 - 136: 10 - 19 is written behind the name. The last name could be Siberet.
136: 19 is written behind the name.
137: 6 - 3 and 9 is written behind the name.
139: 23 - 20 is written behind the name.
152: 8 - 4 and 12 has been written behind the name.
153: the last letter of the last name could be a y or just a fancy ending of the t.
155: 1 - 2 has been written behind the name. The last letter in the last name could be e,
i or just a fancy ending of the n.
158: the second letter in the last name could be i, it looks like i but does not have a
dot. Since the i is usually dotted, this is probably e.
159 & 160: The ink has blotched over most of the first letter of the last name, it cannot
be read, it could be a c.
164 - 168: the last 2 letters of the last name are too faint to read.
168: ditto marks indicate female although Otto is a German boy's name.
173: ditto marks show male and lab.
174: the first letter of the last name could be R, the top of the letter looks like B,
then it looks like B but the writing swings to the right like R.
178: the last letter of the last name could be l or t.
183: 2 and 3 - 7 has been written behind the name.
189: 6 and 4 - 2 is written behind the name.
190: Muller is written with u Umlaut. 16 - 13 is written behind the name.
199: 1 - 1 and 2 is written behind the name.
204: Muller is written with u Umlaut.
211: Mathias is a German boy's first name.
236 & 237: the last name could be Sufleman.
237: 3 - 8 has been written behind the name.
240: it looks like someone put a finger on the wet ink on the first name, except for the
last letter, it cannot be read.
