Passenger Notes:
# 9 - #23 - This being listed as Jersey Island I looked it up and it is a tiny
Island closer to the coast of France than England just below Channel
Islands.
#15 - Sadly this manifest was probably folded and this name did not survive the
years of the fold. I can tell that something was written there but not a
bit of the name comes through. It looks like it was a female child of
the LeoClareque family, when looking at the age.
#33 - It is hard to believe that this being a child of probably Edward and Ann
Parry that she would be from England. I do believe that this is a
mistake of the author. Or perhaps the child was born in England before
sailing.
Correspondence 10/11/02 regarding journal of William Ajax
The journal of William Ajax, one of the passengers on this
manifest, actually states that the captain called me into the cabin in
the afternoon, where I wrote him three lists of the names of the
passengers, for which task he gave me a bottle of ale and a tinful of
soup (June 18, 1862 entry). Ajax then includes a similar list in his
journal. It is not as complete as the ship’s copy, and some parts are
faded completely. But you can see it for yourself. The BYU library
recently digitized Ajax’s journal. The internet address is:

In the entry for May 18, 1862, Ajax explains that bro. Moody blessed
Ann Jane Jones Parry, the daughter of bro. Edward Parry and sister Ann
Parry, formerly of Llandudno [Wales]. She was born at 31, Northampton
street, Liverpool [England], at ½ past12 a.m. April 21st.
Ajax gives quite a lot of detail of the voyage, and
mentions several of the people on the manifest throughout his
journal.
Ajax's Aug 12, 1862, entry mentions the names of 4 LoeClareques that are
to accompany him across the Plains (his handwriting makes it look like
"LeClarcq" ?) At any rate, the mother Jane has daughters named Jane,
Eliza, & Harriet. The daughter Jane is missing from the manifest.
