Correspondence 12/10/02 passengers #179-184 Pairan
My great-grandfather's brother, (Ernest S.) Theodore Pairan, is listed
on this manifest along with his wife, Anna Elizabeth Susann Sauer, and some
of his children. He arrived in this country on 20 November 1866,
traveling on the ship, Anna, from Bremen, Germany, to Baltimore, MD. He
was a copper tinsmith from Hesse, Cassell. He settled in Lancaster,
Fairfield County, OH, and raised a family of 10 children. These
children included Leopold, William George Theodore Pairan (m Christina
Schicht), Charles J. Pairan (m Mary Elizabeth Raum), Anna Catharine
Pairan (m George Washington Guseman), Amelia Elizabeth Pairan (m Henry
Adolf Hoffman), Ernest Theodore Pairan (m Clara A. Eslinger), Clara
Amelia Pairan (m John Rauch), and Theodora Pairan (m Frederick Wolf).
Theodore was born in Germany 18 December 1827 to Anton and Dorothea
Kuhlmann Pairan and died 14 September 1890. The cause of death was
listed as inflammation of the kidney. Theodore and Elizabeth are buried
in Forest Rose Cemetery, in Lancaster, OH.
I believe the Pairans were French Huguenots but I haven't been able to
confirm this yet. I do know that there were Pairans in France in the
1600's. One interesting story that I heard, that was passed down in the
family, is that Theodore had a twin brother who stayed in Germany.
I'd love to hear from any other descendants of Theodore or his siblings,
Henry R., George William Charles, John George, Adolphus, Elizabeth
Amelia (m. George Wilhelm Boving), and Wilhelmina C. Pairan (m George
Andrew Miller). Linda Harrison
