Karl Rudolf Bromme (called "Brommy") was born on the 10th of September 1804 in Anger
near Leipzig and died on the 9th of January 1860 in St. Magnus near Bremen. He was
buried at the cemetery of Kirchhammelwarden (part of Brake). In memory of the first
German fleet admiral there are barracks, a road, a bridge, a house, a commemorative
stone and a restaurant with his name. The 1st German fleet's number 1 Flagship was
the steam frigate "Barbarossa", whereupon the steam frigate "Hansa" followed. The
fleet consisted of up to 11 larger ships and 26 gunboats.
