"Required by the regulations of the Secretary of Commerce and Labor of the United States under Act of Congress approved March 3, 1903, to be delivered to the United States Immigration Officer by the Commanding Officer of any vessel having such passengers on board upon arrival at any Port in the United states."
Columns represent:
1) Number on list (starts with 1 and goes to 32, i.e. each page has 32
lines). But each page does not have all 32 lines filled in and in this
transcription the numbers will be given consecutively starting with 1 on
the first page and continuing consecutively onto the next page.
2) Name in full, 2 sub columns headings- the left hand column says "Family
Name", the right hand column says "Given Name".
3) Age, 2 sub columns, left one says "Yrs.", right one says "Mos.", in this
transcription I will only have one entry and it will be in years unless
indicated otherwise.
4) Sex.
5) Married or Single.
6)* Calling or Occupation. The footnote reads: *Instead of showing occupation
of ? and aliens in transit, state in column 6 whether they are "tourists
or in transit."
7) Able to- with 2 sub columns, the left reads "Read" and the right reads
"Write". I will use the phrase "can read and write can't read or write"
rather than yes or no.
8) Nationality (Country of which citizen or subject.)
9)* Race or People. Footnote is not legible on most of the pages. On one page
some of this line can be seen to read: "Race of people is to be determined
by the stock from which aliens sprang? and the language they speak. List
of races will be found on back of this sheet."
10) Last Permanent Residence. Broken into 2 sub headings. The left one reads
Country, the right one reads City or town,
11) Final Destination (State, city or town if within the United States;
Country if outside the united states.
12) Whether having a ticket to such final destination.
13) By whom was Passage Paid
14) Whether in acquisition of $50, and if not, how much?
15) Whether ever before in the United States, and if so when and where. Three
sub columns: the left one says Yes or no. The right is divided into 2
more columns with the heading: If yes-, and under that two sub headings,
the left hand column headed "Years or part of years", and the right hand
column headed "Where".
16) Whether going to join a relative or friend; and if so what relative or
friend, and his name and complete address.
17)* Ever in prison or almshouse or institutions for care and treatment of the
insane or supported by charity. If so, which?
18)* Whether a Polygamist.

expressed or implied, to labor in the United States.
21)* Condition of Health, Mental and Physical.
22)* Deformed or crippled. Nature, length of these and cause.
23) Height. Divided into two sub columns. One on the left is headed Feet, and
one on the right is headed inches. I entered the data as 5'6" or 5'6 1/2".

Personal Notes:
(Passengers numbered 795 thru 803)
The family of Moses and Amelia Brantz are the maternal grandparents of
this transcriber. Since this page was first transcribed much research
has been done, and some facts not know then are now known. For example:
The person who Moses was going to visit, Aron Brantz, who is listed as
his son, was not his son. We now know that Aron, usually spelled Aaron,
was either a cousin or a nephew of Moses. Aaron's father was a Mendel
Brantz, whose relationship to Moses is at this time not known. We do
know that Mendel raised his family in the town of Romnicul-Sarat. Other
facts discovered are the birth certficates of all of the children of
Moses and Amalia Brantz, and those listed on this manifest were all
Born in: the town of Braila-not Pasada as the manifest states.
For more information on the Brantz family see passengers 12 - 17
on the SS Staveley, Page 1 or contact the transcriber.
Other papers available to us show that Amalia's maiden name was
Goldstein and that she came from the town of Bacau, Romania. This
raises the possibility that the passengers listed following the
Brantz's, namely the Goldsteins, were Amalia's parents and this
transcriber's great grandparents. Further evidence of the validity of
this assumtion is that a birth certificate for one of Amalia's
children Born in: Bacau lists them as her parents with the same first
names as shown on the manifest.
