Transcriber's Notes:

In recording the passengers' given names, the recorder sometimes abbreviated
by omitting several letters then superscripting the last letter or two.
    Examples:
              Cath^e = Catherine
              Fred^k = Frederick
              W^m = William

              Rob^t = Robert
              Pat^k = Patrick
              Sam^l = Samuel
In other cases, the recorder abbreviated given names by recording the first
syllable, or the commonly used abbreviation for the name.
    Examples:
              Jos = Joseph
              Thos = Thomas
              Jas = James
