PASSENGERS' LIST.
The Passenger Act 1882.
I, Theodor Jungst Master of the North German Lloyd SS Rhein do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Steamer at Bremen via Southampton from which port said Steamer has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God.
Sworn to this June 19 1885 Th. Jungst before me, _____________________

Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder not the
transcriber or is used to call your attention to additional information in
the transcriber's notes below.
? The ? marks indicate letters or words that cannot be read due to the quality
of the original document.
* All passengers listed the Intended destination or location as United States
of America, listed as 'U. St. of America'. Therefore this column was omitted.
* The column Died on Voyage listed no deaths. Therefore this column was omitted.
* Families were bracketed together showing shared baggage and compartment
location. Formatter has placed the baggage next to the first person in
the family or group.
* The column transient or intransit was left blank for those passengers
claiming citizenship in cities of the United States
* The last column lists a city or area which the original recorder added to the
preprinted manifest. There is nothing to indicate the meaning of these places.
* Formatter replaced ß with ss throughout the manifest.
* Surnames for the following passengers had the umlaut a:
604, 737
* Surnames for the following passengers had the umlaut o:
591, 596, 632, 746-748(second o), 807-809, 846
* Surnames for the following passengers had the umlaut u:
736, 817
The Captain's name also included the umlaut u
Geographical abbreviations used in the passenger list are:
Gr. - Gross or Gross
Kl. - Klein
U.St. of America - United States of America, USA
The information of 'location of compartment or space' is missing for passengers
#801 to #833. I missed it when transcribing the list. Because I no longer have
access to the list it will have to stay missing.
Passenger Notes:
#578 - Occupation cegarmaker is probably cigarmaker. The missing letters
in Malle?ingke? in the added column are either 'u' or 'n'
#582 - Plesche? in the added column could be Plescheu or Pleschen
